Dr. Beth Shubin Stein - MD

Dr. Shubin Stein was knowledgeable, understanding, extremely intelligent, and a good listener and explainer. We ultimately decided that surgery with a different surgeon at HSS would be the best course of action given my condition and the timeline of it, and she enthusiastically endorsed that plan without a shred of ego or push to have her do my surgery. If you need orthopedic care in Dr. Shubin Stein's specialties, I would strongly endorse her as a provider of choice.

I was not happy with this Dr. I found her to be very conceited, callous, and have zero interest in getting to the bottom of my injury. Her staff was also rude and never returned phone calls. If she cant make money off you by operating, she wants nothing to do with you.

In 2019 Dr. Shubin Stein reconstructed my MPFL, performed a lateral release (this was not part of the pre-surgical plan), and cartilage debridement. I choose her because I had read she was a specialist in MPFL reconstruction. However, the results of her surgery were devastating. Instead of stabilizing my patella her surgery made me unable to return to every day activities such as walking(5+mins) and going up and down stairs. I started having medial (inward) subluxations of my patella. Dr. Shubin Stein did admit to me that medial subluxations only happen after detrimental surgical interventions. She had made my new MPFL too tight by 50% and destabilized my patella with the lateral release. Yet, she dismissed my concerns in my follow up appointments and did not even look at my chart to review the type of surgery she had performed before walking into the exam room! Her nurse and I had to remind her. I just had a second surgery (with another surgeon) to fix her errors. If you have the opportunity to see a different surgeon please do!

Had extensive knee + leg surgery and Dr. Shubin Stein and her team were excellent through the whole experience. From the initial consult to the first set of surgeries to the check ins 1 year later they were always focused on making sure the right options were considered to meet my goals. My recovery went smoothly and any extra support I needed (referrals, extra visits) were all taken care of. Scheduling was easy, payments/insurance was smooth, and the care + surgery was world class. THANKS DR SHUBIN STEIN!!! Can't wait to invite you out to my Ironman race in a year :D
