I can't say enough good things about my experience with Dr. Riew and his team. I have had several spinal surgeries and am still experiencing a great deal of pain. I thought I had no one to turn to until I heard of Dr. Riew. He is a clearly compassionate man and not at all one of those egotistical surgeons who see a person as just a body. He is a world class surgeon who takes the time to talk with a patient, not at them. Prior to my appointment, he sent me for a battery of radiologic tests and requested a complete history of all of my medical conditions. When I had my appointment, he had already reviewed my record and gave me three surgical options and explained each one in detail. He answered all of my questions in a clear, concise way. I left with a packet of information for each of the suggested surgeries. By the time I got home, there was a complete description of the entire visit and my surgical options waiting for me on the patient portal. I'm in the process of making my decision about which surgery to have. Whichever one I chose, I know I am in the best hands possible.

After meeting with multiple qualified surgeons, I felt instantly at ease with Dr. Riew, and scheduled my complex cervical surgery with him. Dr. Riew is not only unique in his unrivaled expertise, but also in his bedside manner and thoroughness in going over options for care. He never made me feel rushed, was clear in his explanations, and answered my and my husband's questions with great thoughtfulness. Dr. Riew clearly cares deeply for improving his patients quality of life. He is a kind person who has a reassuring, confident and warm personality that is rare in a surgeon. I found his and his team's professionalism impecabble, and would highly recommend this surgeon. Thank you, Dr. Riew! - ACDF in Idaho

Dr. Riew came highly recommended to me. I needed a fairly complex cervical fusion. After the surgery I started having trouble walking. The neck pain was horrible. Dr,Riew had me in and accused me of being a drug seeker and told me I was being a baby. 6 Months later he did a CT scan and it turned out he had misplaced 2 pedicale screws. I went in for another surgery to fix the screws and he misplaced another one. Stayed in the hospital a week and had a 3rd surgery by him. They sent me home and I was back at a different hospital for 14 days with sepsis. 2 years later I found out I had a spinal cord injury abd that's why I was having trouble walking, He ruined my life!

My left arm was numb so Dr. Riew operated my cervical spine in St. Louis in 2010. Since then, zero numbness in my arm. A wonderful surgeon!

About
Daniel Riew, MD

Dr. Dan Riew is a world-renowned cervical spine surgeon, and is recognized as one of the leading clinical and academic figures in the global spine community. His practice is exclusively limited to the operative treatment of the cervical spine, the only such practice in the US and one of only a handful in the world. Few surgeons in the world perform more cervical spine operations than Dr. Riew, whose procedures range from minimally invasive microsurgical outpatient procedures, to the most complex revision and deformity corrections. Studies show that surgical volume and experience drive successful outcomes and lower complications rates. He has a particular interest in cervical artificial disc replacements and other motion-sparing procedures such as laminoplasties, as well as complex cervical deformities. A doctor’s doctor, over 200 physicians – and hundreds of their family members – have been operated on by Dr. Riew. This number continually grows, as he sees over 100-150 physicians as new patients each year and operates on 30-50 physicians each year. Of particular note are the numerous spine surgeons, both orthopedic and neurosurgeons who have chosen Dr. Riew for their surgical care. His patients also include numerous professional athletes, prominent business leaders, foreign royalty, and TV personalities. Patients from all over the world and every state in the US except Alaska and Maine have been treated by him. He has been recognized on the lists of America’s Top Doctors, and Best Doctors in America continuously since 2001. Upon his move to NYC, he was immediately recognized as one of NYC’s Super Doctors, and has been consistently named as one of the top 25 Spine surgeons in North America by Orthopedics This Week, ever since such lists have been made. Dr. Riew operates in the state-of-the-art Daniel and Jane Och Spine Hospital at NewYork-Presbyterian/Allen, which features treatment facilities, operating rooms, and advanced diagnostic equipment built exclusively for the treatment of spine patients. This new facility consistently earns rave reviews from patients, and the specially trained clinical staff are dedicated to providing the best spine care in the world. As a global leader in the academic community, Dr. Riew has served as the President of the Cervical Spine Research Society (CSRS), which is the most well-respected society for the treatment of the cervical spine. In addition, he currently serves as Chairman of the International Board of AO Spine, the largest organization of spine surgeons, with over 6,000 members. He has lectured extensively nationally and internationally, improving the treatment of these disorders in other portions of the globe. Dr. Riew has been a Visiting Professor, Key or Named Lecturer over 120 times in 22 countries. Over 100 experienced spine surgeons from all other the world have come to learn from him.
