I think Dr. Hughes is a wonderful surgeon. BUT, getting any help from his office staff is the worst experience, and I was dumb enough to go through it twice. They never call you back, do not follow up even on requests from the doctor. I had a very successful surgery with Dr. Hughes, but would never see him again because he has the absolutely worst office staff I have ever experienced. HSS should not stand for this

After suffering from back pain for years and trying every other alternative, my husband went to Dr. Hughes. The challenge with back pain, that you cannot understand until youve experienced it yourself, is it takes over your life. It is constant and cruel and can make both the patient and their caregiver grumpy. Its also so complex. A procedure that brings one person total relief, could be a failure for someone else. So I think this is why there are mixed reviews about Dr. Hughes and they are not a true reflection of his skill. I would agree that it is difficult to get Dr. Hughes on the phone, but that is because he is seeing patients, both in the office and for surgery. Each time we called with a medical concern, we got a prompt call back from one of his PAs. Each time we visited his office, we were seen promptly by his staff. They were always warm and friendly and Dr. Hughes was always patient with the countless questions we asked. I think its also really important to note that Dr. Hughes did not pressure us into surgery. He gave us the options and possible outcomes. My husbands surgery has provided him, most importantly, with pain relief and we cant thank Dr. Hughes and his staff enough for that.
