I saw Dr Yang because of a questionable pancreatic function test result and ~1.5 years of acute, persistent, unmanaged GI symptoms, probably the worst I've had in many decades. I had seen 4 previous GIs this past year, and nothing that they told me to do helped my symptoms or stopped my weight loss, nor did they seem concerned about or interested in my condition, despite how pretty awful I was feeling and the significant impact on my quality of life. And when I suggested what I thought I was experiencing, they rolled their eyes at me and wouldn't do the tests that I wanted to confirm my suspicion, so I went to a functional med MD who did do some of the tests and based on one of those positive, results, I saw Dr Yang. Dr Yang didn't actually diagnose me with anything in the end. She cleared up whether my issue had a pancreatic cause, which was in question. This review, though, is about my experience with her as a clinician (and the bar is quite low, IMO): she was the 1st GI this year to listen to me, let me ask all the questions I wanted to ask, do some of the testing I wanted to have to confirm one of my suspicions (confirmed). I was able to have an adult conversation without the typical authoritarian-patriarchal dynamic that is so common today, unfortunately. She didn't have any answers for why I was experiencing what I was and she will tell you when she doesn't know (and sonetimes that can also be a way to blow people off when you don't want to try to manage them, but I don't suspect that's the case here). I do trust her knowledge and she explains things in a way that isn't too dumbed down. While I wouldn't describe her as warm and fuzzy (neither am I and I'm not looking for that), I would describe her as present, not distracted, methodical, nondismissive, an expert without being authoritarian, and is skilled at avoiding getting into childish power struggles in order to maintain authority. That said, I did have to ask for certain tests to confirm my suspicion of fat malabsorption. It wasn't offered and there's not really a plan, so unfortunately for me, I'm still stuck with a mysterious fat malabsorption problem, weight loss issues, and no relationship with a general GI practitioner in whom I have the confidence that I will be taken seriously (so far I've been blown off with no meaningful plan, which is sadly common these days for many people), but fortunately, there's the internet where I can do my research and manage myself as best as I can with the resources I have at my disposable. I would probably recommend her to anyone for any question of pancreatic concerns.
