Staff friendly and atmosphere also nice...but the food is ok and edible but not a wow...pancake is made of eggs, flour and milk...5 pieces for $25? We had 2x pancake under 1x french toast, 1x avocado toast with scrambled eggs for $136 + %18 tip =$158!!! You only pay for the space of the cafe/restaurant in New York..

Opened until 10pm yet we got there at 9:15 and they said the kitchen closed at 9:15. Maybe that info should have been put on the Google map

We arrived on time to our reservation for nine (6 adults 3 kiddos) The hostess pointed and said our table wasnt quite ready. (None of our party minded waiting for a bit - obviously it wasnt a table for two and much harder to accommodate) My husband who wasnt paying attention asked what was going on and me thinking the hostess pointed to the table next to us - I explained that they werent ready for us yet and I pointed to the table that I believed the hostess had pointed at. Another worker at the front loudly said EXCUSE ME - WHO SAID THAT WAS YOUR TABLE?! I explained that the hostess just pointed at it and the blonde said No! (rolled eyes) That is NOT YOUR table. To which I replied alright and then we were shown to a different table in the back. The entire exchange felt completely unnecessary and rude considering I wasnt complaining about the table not being ready and I wasnt speaking to anyone but my husband. It would have been apparent that I misunderstood if the staff member just waited for us to be shown to our table. Im giving just two star largely due to this initial interaction. (Although every other interaction with other staff members were great and everyone else was very kind) The other reason for the low stars is that the food was alright- just not worth the price tag. I ordered avocado toast with a poached egg. $26 for one thin slice of bread with glorified guacamole on top, the small poached egg and a very small amount of greens with three grape tomato halves on the side ($22 without the egg) my husband had the salmon benedict. While nothing was wrong with either dish the helpings were small - we were still hungry after our meal (this has literally never happened at a restaurant weve gone to before although quite honestly most restaurants seem to give too much food) Point being there are so many restaurants in New York where the food is AMAZING and you pay the same amount as you would at sarabeths or you get the same good quality of food with more of it for less $$$. For what I heard was an NYC institution Sarabeths was a huge letdown. Hard pass on coming again.
