Ive literally been through hell & back.. and even though Im not completely out of the woods, I can finally see a clearing in the forest of thorns thats been my life for the past year and a half in my attempt to get off of benzodiazepines (Ativan). Like most people that Ive befriended in the benzo community its a story thats all too common.. Like most were not educated on how to properly get off of these poison pills so my journey started like this:
1) Family physician (Had no clue how to taper me off)
2) outpatient facility (rapid taper that was like basically going cold turkey )
3) 30 day inpatient facility ( Basically the same thing another rapid taper but just in a so called secure environment)
After getting out of the inpatient facility, to say I was lost & in the darkest of days would be an understatement.. Thats when I dove deep and educated myself about how to probably get off of benzos & when I realized the medical system is clueless, I searched high & low for a benzo wise doctor. As I sit here typing away, I thank my lucky stars that I came across Dr.Madhava googling left, right & center. She has lead me hand-in-hand, step by step with her patience, delicate words of wisdom to navigate me out of this haze as I begin to see the light cracking through my new horizons..
