Cindy Smith's statement about her business is far from accurate. I had been a client of hers for over 10 years. I am sad to say that she'll slice you off even after working with you for a long time, and in a quite nasty way too. Up to this point, she had been professional and courteous enough. This last year, though, I noticed she has a real problem with taking the time to explain things to you and is impatient and hostile when questioned. We had a disagreement over what I could claim for a deduction. It was an issue she'd been working with me on for years and this was the first time she raised an objection to me, though she claimed she'd expressed uncertainty about it before. I don't recall her ever doing so. So I asked her a lot of questions about the basis of her new viewpoint. She gave a very patchy explanation that didn't directly answer my questions and only created more questions. Instead of explaining her line of reasoning to me more thoroughly which I would have been willing to concede to if I could only understand where she was coming from, she told me I was free to find another accountant, raising the exchange from 4 to 10 in terms of tension and stress. When I tried showing her additional documents and told her I had talked to others in my situation, she viewed my doing so as a challenge to her authority and imposition on her time that she couldn't tolerate, and so she ended her last email to me with a declaration that  she was no longer going to work on my taxes this year. This was a month before taxes were due.Let me make this clear: Cindy Smith, CPA isn't interested in advocating for her clients in any way, and will drop you as a client if you try to advocate for yourself. Cindy Smith, CPA would rather pull brutal power moves on her clients, even longstanding ones, than use more evolved communication skills in the face of misunderstandings. If she had the decency to answer my questions and offer me alternatives in a nicer way, she might have kept me as a client for at least this year and gotten the money for the work she'd already done for me. And if she knew how to treat another human being, she wouldn't be getting this Yelp review. But her appalling attitude and personality soured everything, including a chance to recuperate even her own financial bottom line. She had no interest in steering the situation to a more constructive outcome, even after working with me for over 10 years and having me recommend her to my friends, giving her at least one new client. After being the one to inconvenience me by dropping me one month before the tax deadline, she had the nerve to tell me that she wouldn't charge me for the work she'd already done for me this year.I should have known this was coming. Several years ago I was in her office once and heard her talking to a client on the phone. After Cindy hung up she said to the client as if s/he were there, "maybe you would understand this if you weren't so stupid." So here's a warning. Even if Cindy seems perfectly reasonable, competent and pleasant in person, know that she in fact has little respect for her clients and will leave you high and dry if you've somehow made her angry in any way. Don't believe a word she says in her business statement either about wanting to "serve" her clients over the long haul or being "dedicated" to them. Cindy M. Smith, CPA hates her clients and is dedicated to serving her ego and bad temper.
