The buildi was beautiful, our host excellent, and location exceptional. The room was a little dated and bathroom was private, but down the hallway, not part of our room. Still, I would recommend it.

Seems to me that this property is in transition with new owners. We were the only people in The Oaks when we visited in March. Fair enough, it's off season. Still, it would have been nice to know that we were going to be the only people in this large property for the night. It was very odd. Was there something we should know about the house overnight? Were we responsible to turn the lights off? We were warmly greeted by Josh who showed us to our room, left and then came back the next day to give us breakfast and tell us how to check out. He was terrific, but it was overall about as minimal as service could be. We were in the Melville room. It was tidy and prepared, but the bed is terrible. Broken I'd say by the noticeable dip in the middle at the top which affected our sleep. Feels like a deep clean could be used. Would prefer for the dog toys to be gathered in a basket than on the floor and side table since no dog was home. Same with the linens piled on the office chair as it speaks to the transition rather than welcome. This is a lovely property and I trust that when they get going it will be cleaned and revived and offer the kind of hospitality that it promises.
