Aventine Properties LLC Tax Grievance

Just do it yourself. It is very easy (at least in my town), and you'll possibly even get better results. Just call up the assessor's office, ask what they need for a grievance, and put it together and send it to them. Took me no more than a few hours, and I had never done it before. Edit: Aventine's response seems maybe a little intense, which would make sense, as they're trying to defend their business. But since it was lengthy, I suppose my review merits more detail. I had signed up for Aventine's grievance service, but after a while of not hearing anything I decided to just talk to my town assessor's office, and they told me to just do it myself, that it wasn't hard, so I did. They then quickly responded via email with an agreement to reduce my assessment by about 8% based on what I'd put together in a couple hours and sent to them. They then called me a couple days later to say that they had to rescind the agreed 8% reduction due to the fact that they couldn't work directly with me, as they were required to work with Aventine, because I'd signed up for their service. I figured, that's fine, I'd wait and see if Aventine could do better than I had done in a couple of hours. Clearly they couldn't, confirmed by Aventine's response below. I have no idea why they pitch grievances as this complex drawn-out process though. It wasn't any harder than looking at recent home sales and providing them with a handful of comparable properties that had recently been sold, and writing a short paragraph about why I thought my assessment was too high. If Aventine, having access to "more information" than I did, was unable to negotiate any reduction in assessment, while I was able to negotiate 8% in a matter of a few hours of my time with only publicly available housing sales data, then I don't know what to say. Sorry, I guess? I really don't want to bash them, which is why my initial review didn't. They might be a good option for someone who can't be bothered to do it themselves. And maybe this process varies significantly from town to town, no idea. I don't have any other experiences to compare with as this was my first time doing any sort of grievance, but I feel my experience with Aventine merit's a 1-star review. And the recommendation to try this yourself rather than pay someone to do it stands.
