Great staff! We had our two dogs with us and they gave us very reasonable guidelines to follow to ensure the pups werent disrupting anyone elses time. I recommend and would go back!!

My granddaughter, my daughter, and I visited the Schmitt Farm for the first time on Nov 5, 2023. My daughter drove 45 minutes to the farm. We were all excited for our Saturday outing. My granddaughter really enjoyed her first time in the pumpkin patch! Beautiful photo opt as well for folks who dont like big crowds. Unfortunately, our outing quickly turned into a nightmare. I decided to buy some apple cider donuts as a treat for my family on the way out. I was approached by a middle aged female Schmitt inquiring if I had purchased the donuts upon leaving the farm. She stated I am guessing that you paid for the donuts in the back although I dont see a sticker. I responded, I am guessing I did. Do you want to see the receipt? She replied no. I asked her twice about viewing my receipt even asking her if she was sure. She said no. She couldnt even look at me in the eye while speaking to me. Instead she looked down at my sneakers indicating that my laces were untied. I will never visit this farm again. This is a blatant form of discrimination because I am African American. Thank goodness my toddler granddaughter didnt comprehend what was going on. Racism and discrimination is alive and well.

Business Response on Google Oct 25th, 2023
Firstly, I am happy to hear that you enjoyed the pumpkin patch.Secondly, I am very upset to read the rest of your review. We strongly oppose any racism or discrimination. That being said, I feel that you have made some very wrong assumptions! First assumption is that the cashier was a Schmitt. She is not. However, she has worked at our farm for many years and is well received by all our guests. You bought donuts in the back food area. They are also sold in the front sales area. In order for us to tell if the donuts are paid for, the cashiers are instructed to put a paid sticker on them. Otherwise, it’s nearly impossible to quickly discern whether they have been paid for. Unfortunately, the cashier in the food area must not have put a sticker on your package. That is unusual, but it was the end of long day for all so she must have made a mistake. As you walked through the second sales area and didn’t approach the cashier, the cashier stated “I am guessing that you paid for the donuts in the back although I don’t see a sticker.” And you responded, “I’m guessing I did”. You offered a receipt, but she trusted you. Her only thought is that the other cashier forgot. The cashiers are instructed to ask for receipts for merchandise as it leaves the farm from every single customer. The fact that she did not ask you for a receipt was not following policy, but rather placing trust in you. She made an assumption that you were telling the truth. Her concern about your shoelaces being untied is a concern for your safety which again you did not appreciate. It seems like no matter what she did, you were assuming the worst of her without even knowing what a good person she is. She is appalled that you called her a racist because of all the good work she has done for all people. We take a great deal of pride in the diversity of our staff and our clientele. We would hope that you take this review down because it does not reflect the spirit of the farm. If you would like to discuss further, you can also email me at [email protected]. In the meantime, I hope that this response alleviates your concern about the cashier’s intentions.
