Explained exactly what the surgery and rehab will be

Before recommending bilateral knee surgery, Dr. Kang did steroid injections on both my knees. I originally saw him because I had knee pain with minor swelling that would come and go. The steroid injections were done in my first visit and made my pain worse so I returned to the doctor. This doctor told me I needed bilateral knee surgery for misaligned knee caps - pointed to things on the xray and MRI claiming they justified the need for surgery. "You're young, you're like a new car - so why not fix this?" he said. I was in my 20s. Went for a second (and third!) opinion and found out I had lyme disease! According to the other doctors, nothing on my scans indicated misaligned kneecaps or anything out of the ordinary beyond the swelling. My physical therapist informed me that they have had other patients in the office who had surgeries done by Dr Kang who have all had "bad outcomes." I was almost tricked by this man... my knees were fine but the doctor was willing to sell me hope through a surgery that wasn't necessary and would have done harm. You never have to settle when it comes to your health. Be picky about your surgeon. Get a second and third opinion. One incompetent and/or dishonest doctor could ruin your life. Update: Years after choosing NOT to take Dr. Kang's surgical recommendation, I have hiked the Alps from Switzerland to Italy. I have traversed the French Alps by bike. I have climbed Mt. Washington. Knees still going strong. When I saw Dr. Kang I had been in pain for so long and was so desperate I actually considered surgery! Unbelievable! So glad I went for other opinions and found thorough diagnosticians to guide my treatment and recovery.

Dr Kang did a great job for my daughters knee surgery. After a horrible accident as a passenger in a head on collision, She sustained a broken femur as well as Multiple severe injuries including to her knees. after a long hospitalization and several months in a nursing home there was quite a long time of inactivity. A wheelchair was provided as she left the nursing home and walkers and canes were purchased. after intense PT she was able to walk with a cane. It is still difficult to go up simple steps to get into the house. As well as crossing streets because of the height of the curbs in some areas. Somehow or year and a half later the vendor of the wheelchair has been contacting us saying that it was put through as a rental from the nursing home. The insurance company felt the request was for a rental and needs to be changed to a permanent prescription. There is a lot of back-and-forth between the vendor and insurance company. We were advised to reach out to the orthopedic doctor, Dr Kang. Since we were just there 2 weeks ago, the insurance agent assured us that all he needs to do is to submit a prescription stating that the patient already has the wheelchair, and although she is progressed well as well as can be. A wheelchair should be kept for long trips and distances. PT team agrees. When we called the doctors office a message was taken. We got a call back the next morning jenny told us this request was not possible. Before asking the reasons. Then she said she would speak with the doctor about this. A second person called in the meantime after hearing the message and when I told him what we needed a simple prescription to keep a piece of equipment that we already have and do need, The woman said Im sorry I know you spoke to jenny already and couldnt help us. Then we were transferred to jenny who told us that the doctor said we couldnt have this because a wheelchair is not needed and there was no clinical data to back up the need for one! We were just there, the cane is necessary which was very visible. After 15-20 minutes in a grocery store my daughter is too tired & weak to do much else during the day. PT and OT suggest more exercise and trying to do a little more each day. For this the wheelchair has come in handy. Its kept in the car. So we can go to the boardwalk and its only used when needed to get back to the car. There was no reason for this prescription to extend this wheelchair to become permanent to be denied. This decision has greatly changed my opinion of this practice. The message sent is that a client with a permanent disability should just accept the fact they cant go very far. And have to give up and assistive item, Jenny told us we should simply go to the store and buy one for ourselves and let the original vendor come to the house as they have threatened & take the wheelchair that is still being used & I assure you it is still needed. Its not being relied on it is simply needed. This seems like a decision made in haste as we couldnt even have a complete sentence since jenny spoke over us. I think because of the office staff that we had to deal with especially Jenny they should be a zero star review. But I do not have confidence that the doctor was even made aware of the nature of our call. Because jenny kept arguing that we should not have a prescription for a new wheelchair. It was repeated at least five times that we already had it, the insurance company had us called because it was what made the most sense just to have a new prescription written to update that it was still being used and that the wheelchair should be approved to keep the one that we already had. When we pointed out that she had misunderstood she said the answer was still no. Anybody else, would have gone back and reiterated the conversation but modifying what they had said wrong to clarify with him that it was not a brand new prescription. She just simply couldnt be bothered I guess. Maybe they should hire people who are more professional to help patients as Jenny has consistently been terrible to deal with.
