Psychiatrist - Dr. Igal Rahmani, MD

I suffer from depression, anxiety, and severe PTSD. I was a patient of doctor Rahmani's for the better part of 12 years, over which time he came to know me very well. In February, I contracted COVID-19 and slept through our virtual appointment. Had it not been for the fact that I was out of medication, I would have rescheduled the appointment. I was unable to find a time to schedule another appointment and explained to the receptionist that I desperately needed my medications refilled. She refused to do so because I had not seen the doctor. I am unsure if Dr. Rahmani is aware of what transpired, but regardless, it was a disgrace to the medical profession and is certainly not best practice. While I understand that it was my fault that I missed the appointment, I was not on any new medications that needed to be monitored and there should not have been an issue in filling the prescriptions for the interim period between that day and the next appointment time that worked for me, which was a week later. Additionally, the circumstances should have been taken into consideration. I had enough to deal with at that time and did not need anymore stress. The lack of empathy on their part forced me to seek a new psychiatrist. For the few weeks that followed, I was unmedicated, and to put it lightly, in a downward spiral. Dr. Rahmani and his team should have realized that they were taking away one of my life lines when they refused to help me. I consequently have a lack of trust in mental health professionals after what was done to me after 12 years of knowing the doctor. Only recently with my medications beginning to take effect and the support of a new psychiatrist do I feel emotionally stable again. I hope Dr. Rahmani reads this and feels both shame and pride- shame for the way I was mistreated, but pride in the fact that his guidance over the years has taught me valuable life skills such as how to recover from such a setback.
