My dog ate a bunch of chocolate yesterday and when I brought him in to the hospital he was acting totally fine. They did some checks and told me I could go through with further checks if I wanted to but that he seemed ok. They didnt even charge me for just checking his heart rate and his gums. They said I could come back if he presented symptoms. He ended up being fine! Everyone was so sweet and calm and helpful. Thank you for helping calm me down

My Pomeranian hurt his left foreleg. We called and didn't get much info so we took him in. Upon arrival we were told about the $244 consultation. We asked to see a full breakdown of costs before doing anything. The break down included xrays, review charge of xrays, a splint, and a miscellaneous fee. The total bill was $1444. I love my pomeranian and I don't mind paying what is necessary but the bill felt completely blown up. My concern was, if the results of the xray would not change how he would be treated, why the xray? Why not just put a splint? The issue for me was trust, I had no trust, they seemed like they only cared about making a sale rather than caring about the animal. I respect the hustle but I was looking for a place that cares, not a money pit where the staff look like they all hate their lives (no offense to them). I hate to say this but I wouldn't advise anyone to take their pet here. It's a hospital so the bad reviews should be expected, but the issue was no compassion, no caring, no empathy and just a general disregard. My pet is family, and I wouldn't allow anyone to treat my kids or parents that way. Maybe a one off, but I would think three times before coming here. I attached the bill. Transparency should be first and foremost. UPDATE: I actually appreciate the response and I hope they read everything I wrote as it was sincere. I took my pet to another hospital and I am not going to say how better it was or anything of that sort. Rather I would like to explain the different approach taken. I knew my pet could not put weight on the paw. That was told to me by Blue pearl. I paid $244 for something I already knew. I wanted to be consulted by an expert. I asked blue pearl if trajectory of treatment would change if we did the xrays. I did not get a straight answer. I profusely apologized as I asked five times, different ways because I wasn't sure I was being understood and I didn't want to come off as just being difficult. At the other hospital, they advised an xray as well. I completely understand why. My question was the same, would approach to treatment change if it's a fracture vs a sprain. This time, however, I received an informed response. A major fracture will heal on its own but pet must be in crate for at least two weeks. A minor sprain will go away in a few days. A major fracture may not heal fully (the bone won't heal together and will heal as two separate parts) and that would require surgery to put a pin. Perfect response. Informed me why they want to do something, showed me they had confidence in what they are doing, and empathized with what im thinking about. I want to be involved with what's happening, even if it's just being in the know. Finally, I asked about a splint and they mentioned that splints work very poorly for paws. They also explained how it can happen. They gave me medicine, explained all of it. Again, I'm not saying Blue Pearl is bad. I'm saying the purpose of the review is to showcase how that could have been handled significantly better after receiving service elsewhere. My pet is my family, I want to know I can trust whoever is looking out for him. Unfortunately, Blue Pearl provided me with no sense of TRUST. I am not going to attack their knowledge in their respective field, but it looks bad when another place explains in thorough detail what Blue Peatl could not.
