image I have nothing bad to say about Dr. Trufas.  He is great, unlike some of his staff.  However...There is at least one member (I don't remember her name) on the reception team who seems to like giving an attitude over the phone and tends to have a "whatever" tude toward some patients.  I am not the kind who comes in as often as they should.  I KNOW THAT.  IMO, that shouldn't entitle you to give me an attitude when I call or come in, but it's been happening for years and will probably keep right on happening.  It doesn't matter if you tell them to be nice, this particular one will keep right on acting the same way.  I'm not out to get her, but it'd be nice to not get sarcasm or rudeness just because I don't come in when I should or can't make an appointment.  Unfortunately she fits in with typical the "**** u" attitude from the younger ppl of the area.  If my insurance was more widely accepted I'd go somewhere else just to avoid her.

image I've been a patient of Dr. Freinberg-Trufas at Hudson Valley Dental Care since moving to the area more than eight years ago. Dr. Trufas is professional, extremely well skilled and knowledgeable, and kind - exactly what you want in a dentist. I can't imagine going anywhere else and while my husband chose a dentist closer to his work several years ago, I got him to switch to HVDC and Dr. Trufas in the last few years too. We are devotees. You are in good hands whoever you see for your cleaning and check-up. I will give a shout out here to hygienist Stephanie though who joined the staff in the last year or two. I have seen such an improvement in a particular problem spot since she began doing my check-ups. I rarely have to wait more than a few minutes to be seen (sometimes no waiting at all). The office is in a large old house where the first floor is converted to the dental office, so while it's a business and clean, bright with the usual waiting area, reception desk and exam rooms, there's sort of an automatic comforting feeling coming in the door. If you are looking for a dentist in the Albany area, you will be pleased with your choice should you try Hudson Valley Dental Care.

image My parents had super crappy dental insurance when I was a kid, and thusly, we could only go to crappy dentist. I developed a pretty intense fear of the dentist that resulted in my complete and utter dentist avoidance for a period of 5 years. When my molars started to give me pain, I knew I wasn't being smart. You can choose to not open your credit card bill, but you keep racking up fees. Cavities, like credit card charges, don't just evaporate because you ignore them. My friend Jen, who had been a dental hygienist for ten years, recommended Cristi Trufas-Freinberg to me. With some trepidation, I scheduled an appointment. I was right, my teeth were a mess. I had 16 cavities, which might has well been a million. Here's the part where I should freak out, but here's why I didn't:- Professional, courteous, and knowledgeable front desk staff. Same lady. Every time. Know what she's doing.- Interesting and gentle hygienists who are really good not just at cleaning, but also serve as "tooth coach," coaxing you into better dental habits.- Cristi just has a mild mannered, sweet way about him. He's soft spoken and kind. Where'd you'd expect heaping mounds of judgement (16 CAVITIES, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!), you just get patience and sensitivity. He really listens to you, and when you tell him you are afraid of the dentist, he reassures you. When he could feel my heart thumping out of my chest, he stopped to ask if I was ok. He told me if I experienced any pain, to raise my left hand, and he would stop. I did, and he actually stopped. When I told him I could feel the drilling, he ordered up more novocain immediately and waited for it to take effect before proceeding. I once had a dentist refuse to give me novocain, telling me it was all in my imagination, that my cavity was shallow, and that I needed to calm down. The way he treated me renewed my faith in dentists. - The drill and fill room is on an enclosed sun porch that faces the woods. It's warm, bright, and comforting. I actually look forward to going there. You shouldn't go there, but if you have to, it will be nice.Bottom line: if you're terrified of the dentist, this is the place for you.

image I know, I know, 5 stars for a dentist? Really, who likes the dentist? Well, I actually don't mind, but I know my husband dreads and detests going to the dentist and even he gives this office 2 thumbs up.I think finding good healthcare professionals is one of the hardest things when you're new to an area. I actually found my way here via this review: yelp.com/biz/dong-angela… and thought I would give it a shot since the office is so close to us.I was lucky to have an outstanding dentist in Chicago for many years who was also a personal friend. He was very gentle and very conservative when it came to any drilling or x-rays, so when we moved I was worried about running into one of these opportunistic, horror show dentists you hear so much about- drilling healthy teeth and billing absurd amounts to insurance and whatnot. I mean, let's face it- a bad dentist can be really, really bad. cnn.com/2013/03/29/healt…Anyway, this office was a pleasure to deal with from the very beginning. The woman who helped me schedule our appointments when I called was extremely patient with our (very) limited availability due to my childcare concerns and my husband's insane work schedule. The day of my visit was great as well. The woman at the front desk was very friendly and efficient, and the hygienist was wonderful. I learned that I have the start of periodontal disease (likely from my pregnancy) and will have to go for cleanings 4 times a year until it's under control. I'll be honest, it was an *extremely* uncomfortable deep cleaning, and I was pretty sore for a day or so afterwards, but she was very patient and tuned into my body language; pausing regularly to let me recover a bit.I'm actually a little confused because I saw a female dentist and I thought she was Dr. Feinberg-Trufas, but I now understand Dr. Feinberg-Trufas is a man. And I think that's who my husband saw. Anyway, the female dentist that I saw was excellent with a very calm and reassuring manner. I can tell she is a conservative "wait and see" type like my old dentist in Chicago, which is a great relief. Interesting woman too, we had a nice talk about work-life balance policies in the U.S. (or the lack thereof). My husband saw who I now believe was Dr. Feinberg-Trufas and was very pleased with him as well. When my husband says, "Yeah it was fine," about a dentist visit with that little upward inflection at the end, I know we've got a keeper...
