My daughter has been attending Greene Hill since Kindergarten and we couldn't be happier.  She loves going to school and is thriving there.  This is a true example of Progressive Education at its best- the students are nurtured to be creative, exploratory, deep thinkers, as well as kind and just human beings. The teacher : student ratio cannot be beat.  It is a wonderful community to be a part of, and we are so grateful we learned about it when we were sorting out where to send her, it is truly a gem of a place.

My son has been attending Greene Hill School for 5 years now, and he LOVES school, which is really all I've ever wanted. He is excited to go and loves talking about what he does at school every day. The school's slower, low pressure approach, that leaves lots of time for creativity and community has been a great match for his personality. His projects are complex and he has grown into an incredible collaborator and communicator - which I credit entirely to GHS. Plus, I know everyone there, he knows everyone there. He feels supported and valued in a way I don't think he would in a bigger school environment.

My 8 year old daughter has been at Greene Hill since she was 5.  And she is thriving (even with the impact of the pandemic!).  She is an avid and curious learner, excited by new areas this year (like math, cursive and social studies!)  The progressive curriculum and commitment to social and racial justice are helping her (and us!) become a thinking and caring citizen. I couldn't be happier.  Nor could she!  Check out Greene Hill yourself.

My son applied for middle school this past fall. I was running late the morning of the open house. Called several times. Left several messages. No one ever picked up or returned my call. I got to the open house with only about a half hour left. No one reached out to try to catch me up to speed nor did they note the name on my name tag. Later that morning, I received an email from the school that they were sorry they missed me at the open house!  I emailed them back to inform them that I had made it there and called several times during the course of the morning rush hour to keep them posted as to my whereabouts to no avail.  During my son's school visit, my son informed me that the currently enrolled students were laughing at the visiting students, and they were not made to feel welcome. He wanted me to withdraw his application to the school.  I never received an interview or meeting with the school even though the email received from them regarding the admission decision specified that they enjoyed meeting our family, as opposed to just stating our child, so I'm left with the thought that I should have had an interview. I also called the office several times to follow up on receipt of documents and someone finally answered who told me that if I didn't hear from them it was received.  Not a way to instill confidence but ok.On a positive note, I did note that the administration, teachers, and staff were very enthusiastic and motivated about their school and took their mission teaching the kids seriously and passionately.  They were doing some great project based learning here from what little I was able to observe during my open house session. The school also seems to be doing a great job of reaching out and fostering bonds with it's community and neighboring institutions which I appreciated. The student body was predominately white. I did see some children of African American descent but did not notice any boys of Latino descent. Unfortunately this is a problem effecting all NYC private schools, not just this one. This school does shine in the fact of it's sliding scale tuition based upon each family's ability to pay and I applaud that step towards economic diversity.  I think it's a step that all private schools should take. Overall, I hope the school will accept my constructive criticism and work towards implementing more of a user friendly admissions approach and stress to their students to be friendly to prospective students. The school's heart seems to be in the right place.
