We had the best experience with Dr. Rosenfeld! He patiently explained the procedure and put the tubes in very quickly and gently. I highly recommend using him!!

I had an horrific experience. Not only was he rude and condescending to me, but the way he treated my child was brutal. He assured me that giving her ear tubes without anesthetic, painkillers or sedation would be ok. In fact, she was so traumatized that she cried for 8 hours and hid her ears every time a man walked anywhere near her. The procedure involved strapping her to a wooden board and three of us holding her down while she howled in agony and fear. And this was all unnecessary: other doctors do this in a humane way. When I told Dr Rosenfeld that his method was traumatic, he more or less mocked me. It was the worst experience my daughter has ever had in her life to this point.

Dr. Rosenfeld, the absolute BEST E.N.T. OUT THERE!! We have been using Dr. Rosenfeld for the last 3 years and he has done numerous procedures - all in the office, none of which exceeded 5 minutes all of which have gratefully had excellent results. Dr. Rosenfeld is so knowledgeable, professional, compassionate, caring, patient and exceptionally skilled. He is able to save you from in hospital surgery, pre-opt, post-opt, the trauma of watching your child go limb and lifeless and day long hospital stays and visits. More importantly, he is the #1 E.N.T. universally whose incredibly skilled hands can complete almost all procedures within relatively few minutes, in the office. I have 2 children with ear tubes, in both ears. Dr. Rosenfeld has been there for us every step of the way. My son got in his ear tubes at 7 months and is now almost 3. His hearing improved within a few months of receiving the tubes. He thankfully has never complained of discomfort. Those 2 minutes in the office were well worth it. We have come for the yearly visits, always have a smooth time at the office; receive attention, care, and direction. When one of the tubes needed to be removed, it was done same day, in the office, within 30 seconds the procedure was over. My daughter has much worse ears with recurring issues, her tubes repeatedly fall out and her ears get infected. We have certainly come to the right address! Dr. Rosenfeld uses his expertise and sophistication to deal with it each time. She is now a great talker, and after each visit, and often with just a few ear drops, she is thankfully healed each time. We are lucky to be able to benefit from Dr. Rosenfeld and his exceptional care. Its amazing that he performs the procedure without anesthesia! Yes, my child cried for 2 minutes but it was done without anesthesia which is much healthier. PS my kids, like most, usually cry when the doctor walks in, anytime they go to the doctor. The crying starts BEFORE any procedure. Within minutes of being worked on by Dr. Rosenfeld, they are calm, happy and relieved, obviously because they have been all cleaned up and are on the road to comfortable, normal ears again. So THANK YOU!!

My now 10yr old daughter was first seen by Dr. Rosenfeld when she was around 4. If you only have a few minutes to read this review, save yourself the heartache and find another doctor. There are many excellent pediatric ENTs in Manhattan. We just switched care to one with WCM and it was a NIGHT AND DAY experience after the first meeting. Go somewhere else. If you want specificity on where Dr. Rosenfeld falls short, then read on. The diagnosis six years ago was that she needed ear tubes. We trusted the doctor's recommendation, but in hindsight, I wish I'd asked some more questions about the pro's, con's, and risks of this recommended procedure. This was my first mistake, and I'd start off by urging any parent who visits this doctor to not abdicate judgement to Dr. Rosenfeld. I know now that he did not have my daughter's best interest at heart. At the time, Dr. Rosenfeld recommended he insert the tubes in his office, without the anesthesia that is administered in a hospital setting. I have since come to learn that he is the only pediatric ENT who recommends this unorthodox practice, and is viewed poorly by the others in his medical community for it. The anesthesia the hospitals give is a 10 minute event with a mask for the little ones. Very straightforward. Following his recommendation was another terrible mistake. At the time, back in 2018, he had not done such a procedure for a child of my daughter's age, only younger kids. I have since learned that it is well documented how neglected, unaddressed and mismanaged pain for children is, BY ADULTS. Horrific to think about, as we adults are responsible for their care! The researchers who have written on this could have used Dr. Rosenfeld as their exemplar. We watched as my brave, then four year old daughter was bound up in a contraption, turned to one side, and tortured with a jab to rupture her eardrum. She screamed in pain and her whole body convulsed as much as it could in the contraption. Dr. Rosenfeld retorted with some dismissive comment about her reaction, flipped her over, and asked her to remain still while he prepared to inflict the same atrocity to her other ear drum. It has now been six years since this occurred. My daughter has lived with real physical as well as psychological pain from the experience. For the first few years, she tried her best to keep her ears dry whilst shampooing her hair at shower time. She was distressed about the sensation of when water interacted with her ears. I do not know if it was real pain, or psychological trauma, but I'm not sure it actually matters. She ceased to enjoy swimming, something she was great at and loved. Although the tubes have now fallen out, one of her eardrums has not healed fully, something I have come to learn is not uncommon . The new doctor we switched care to just told me today that the small perforation that exists means she must swim with ear plugs to prevent water from getting into her ear, otherwise she will feel pain (validation of her complaints!!). Dr. Rosenfeld during all of those post op visits never told us this. We have also learned that she might have to undergo surgery if the hole continues to remain open. Meanwhile, I learned today from the new doctor that her adenoids are swollen and infected. Dr. Rosenfeld never checked these, a shocking miss and easily done with a quick scope. She has been suffering for years with perpetual congestion due to her adenoids. I'll always wonder if we could have avoided the tubes altogether by treating this issue instead. And the final evidence of Dr. Rosenfeld's ineptitude... The new doctor could easily do a visual inspection to size my daughter's ear drum perforation. On prior visits with Dr. Rosenfeld, he has not been able to do this, instead relying on a tool that has a pressure sensor to understand if there is a hole or not. So, in sum, please do not make the same mistakes I did, and seek another ENT. There are many excellent ones in Manhattan. It is worth the inconvenience of the subway ride.

I had an extremely negative (traumatizing) experience with Dr. Richard Rosenfeld that I see echoed in other reviews here. He insisted that my 8 year old would be able to handle having ear tubes inserted without going under anesthesia and said it would be relatively painless and quick. He was very abrupt and didn't prepare us honestly for what this would entail. He said nothing about putting him in a papoose and that would it in fact be extremely painful. During the procedure my son was screaming bloody murder and Dr. Rosenfeld was not sensitive to this at all, in fact very dismissive of my son's extreme pain. And it went on for at least 10 minutes as he tried and tried to get the ear tube in his ear, saying that my sons ears were difficult; he should have known this in advance by just looking inside them! Well my son was completely traumatized by the experience. And to make things worse, both ear tubes fell out within 3 weeks so all of this was pointless. When I spoke to my son's pediatrician, he was shocked that any doctor would do this to a child and said it was not standard practice at all. In addition, our new ENT was also shocked at this story. I am very angry about this experience and highly advise people to stay away from this sociopath.
