I wish I could rate this firm a zero.  We hired Shi Ming Tam to help us draw up plans and file paperwork for construction on a house we purchased in Brooklyn. As with the previous reviewer, we were also very impressed by his credentials. He also came out to the house to look over the property and was very helpful -  up to the point we signed the contract with him. After that he handed over the project to one of his associates and we never heard from him again. We were recently inspected by the DOB and they found various issues with the plans that Shi Ming's firm drew up. We don't know what to do anymore. Does anyone have any recommendations for another architect that can help us?

Terrible architect firm. We engaged Shi Ming Tam to help us with our house in queens and Shi Ming initially was eager to help. We were very impressed by his credentials. He came out to look at the property and signed the contract with us. After that day, we never heard from him. He handed over the project to his associates. Although the associates tries but they never guided us through the dept of building approval process and we were hitting rock blocks every step of the way. At the end to a point it was holding up our move in process because they forgot to tell us that we need an engineer to close out the process. This was a task bag could've been review by Shi Ming tam because he is an architect but he said since we live in queens and his office is in Brooklyn, he doesn't want to do it and ask us to pay and hire someone else in addition to the 5K that we already paid him. It was a nightmare. In addition the sketches of the house were wrong, measurements were wrong and required lots of edits.  We had to demand three times for someone to come out to see the property and revise tier sketches. The only prompt thing that they ever did was remind and call us of payment dues.  I still can't believe he would come out to queens for a contract and deposit and not do the final inspection of the house.  I would NEVER recommend them to anyone.
