I've had many bad run ins with jewelry stores over the years. When my husband proposed to me a decade ago, I loved my ring but was kind of mad at him because he independently designed my ring, had it made overseas, and bought my main diamond from a store that's not even in business anymore (first world problems, I know). I knew that meant it was going to be hard to have anyone service my rings (clean it and do rhodium plating). I was even more frustrated when I had to get it appraised because the first place I went to wanted to charge me close to $800 to get an appraisal and service my rings. They were a local jewelry store and still had to send my rings off to their warehouse, no thank you. I don't even want to talk about the big chain jewelry stores and their treatment towards me with my rings. I decided that I would just take really good care of my rings and see how long they lasted. They lasted 5 years before I had to go to Sandia the first time. I was putting a sweatshirt on and my main diamond in my engagement ring flew off and landed under the couch. Fortunately, my husband found my diamond (especially since it wasn't insured yet). I started my search again for someone who could repair my diamond and help me find an appraiser. After calling 3 other jewelers and getting quite discouraged, I landed at Sandia Jewelers. My BIGGEST pet peeve is sending my rings off, anywhere, even if it's a local warehouse. My mother has lost 3 wedding ring sets getting her rings serviced due to theft in transit from the store to where ever her jeweler sends her rings. When I called Sandia, I was expecting the same song and dance that everyone else told me... it would be 5-10 days for repair, nothing was done on site, and I had to put money down before they would accept the rings. To my surprise, the owner said I would have my rings back the next day. I asked him if he could appraise my rings, he said he couldn't but he had a local guy that could do it and I would still get my rings back within 2-3 days. Considering this was right in the middle of the COVID crisis, I was thinking at the time that they just had fast turn around time because everyone was holed in their house and not getting their jewelry repaired. Either way, I was introduced to the appraiser before he personally took my rings which eased my mind about my rings being taken off-site. When I had another diamond fall out (a smaller one this time), I waited way too long to get it fixed because I was afraid the turn around time wouldn't be as fast as before. I was very wrong and feel stupid that I've been sitting on a broken ring for over a year because I didn't just call and ask. I have real attachment issues if you can't tell. Not only is Sandia Jewelers quick, both times he brought out my rings I almost cried because he is just so skilled at reviving jewelry. I forget how pretty my rings are as I wear them because they get dirty and grimy no matter how well I take care of them. He has also never tried to upsell me on my rings, told me that my rings are cheap, or bashed how they were designed (yes, all of that has happened at other stores). He told me not only are my rings pretty but he can tell how much they mean to me. The human connection is lost in a lot of places. Not only does Sandia Jewelers treat me right, they are reasonably priced and I LOVE that they are locally owned and operated. I will be back in 6 months to get my ring rhodium plated again so my diamonds stop falling out. Thank you Sandia Jewelers, it means a lot to me that you care so much about my rings.
