6/30/23 update: 5 stars to Dr Kakish! I had my other knee done. Dr Kakish did a phenomenal job! Negative 2 stars to his clinical support! His clinical staff (probably hired by HR, with supervision provided by UNMH Admin - or whatever) dropped the ball colossally on the discharge, getting post up meds, and after car (PT). A total cluster. Insurance didnt approve the PT company I was Refered to, and they werent aware of it, nor did the notify us. It took a week to get that straightened out. I then needed a refill on my pain meds, which they only fat me about 3-4 days worth based on the dosages administered at the hospital. I quickly weened myself down 7.5 mg/day (from 80mgs at the hospital). Making them last 9 days. But still needed some for sleep and PT. We called in a refill about 3-4 days before we knew wed need it (remember, Im only taking 7.5 mg/day by now). It never got filled (after 2 days). We called back. They said theyd call us when they go it to the pharmacythey didnt. Keystone cops! But, do not misunderstandDr Kakish is phenomenal!!!! Too bad his clinical support staff stinks. Original review (5 stars): Amazing surgeon! I had my knee replacement in June. I have 5 friends who had a knee replacement in last year. 2 of them younger by 5-8 years (Im 63); the other 3 around my same age. 3 at NM Ortho, 2 at the VAall did not fair nearly as well as I did, and their scars were horrible, and recovery time considerably longer than mine. Im getting ready to have my other knee done in a month. Will keep you posted. However, I do have one complaint. His PA is a dud. Shes 12 yo, and arrogant. Not great bedside manner. Not a good listener, nor prepared by having read the docs notes. Too bad! Everyone else in his practice is great.

Hands down the best Surgeon! When I was involved in a horrific car accident completely shattering my tibula, fibula and ankle. Other doctors at the UNM trauma clinic were pushing me to amputate, Dr. Kakish took the time to explain the lengthy process we would endure trying to reconstruct and keep my leg/ankle. He was the only doctor eagerly willing to save my leg as I was only 33. Needless to say 7 surgeries later I trust him 100% and will forever recommend him to anyone needing surgery. I will be forever grateful Dr. Kakish saved my leg.
