Listen up! This is for many of you, with hearing loss. Most of my friends know Ive been struggling with my hearing for some time. I went for hearing aids. Too expensive. So I opted for the low priced amplifiers you see online. $100 vs $6,500. What happened after a few days? I could not adjust to them. They amplify- make every sound louder. No programming, noise suppression or Bluetooth. My footfalls would thunder through my head. My speaking voice was outrageously loud. A gentle breeze sounded like a category 5 hurricane. There is a volume control. Theyre not totally useless. But - No programming for my specific range of hearing loss. I was not getting what I needed. So I took them out and continued to struggle. We got an email that promised a discount on hearing aids. I called and got an appointment at Hearing for All on Eubank. My hearing test was a disaster- worse than the one at the first hearing center 8 months ago - although I tried harder this time! The audiologist- a kind man named Keith Lam - told me the hearing aids are $6,500 (same basic product as the other) but with the discount they would cost $4,000. Robin is so tired of yelling in my ear she wouldnt let me decline them. They were delivered today. Its weird, having my hearing restored. I think its like getting glasses after a long and gradual descent into visual cloudiness. I was living in auditory cloudiness. They dont even look bad. I can hardly see them. Its weird but my other senses (taste and smell) seem enhanced too. Its not likely but the brain and your senses are complicated things. All in all - Im very happy.
