The process was a relatively smooth one. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. I was pleased with the whole process. We did have our move contracted out to another person but they were also friendly, helpful, and took extreme care with our belongings. I would definitely recommend using them and in particular the subcontractor we had-Leo was superb. I would hire them again when it comes time for the next move.

EDIT: STOP DELETING REVIEWS! This review was originally posted in 2019. When it came to earning our business they said everything a person wanted to hear. When we inquired about using their company, we were told by a company representative that they ABSOLUTELY use their own moving trucks. This in fact was not the case as they used a 3rd party moving company. This was the first of many lies. As a military family, we hired Colonial Van Lines as our moving company because we were told that they were a FULL-SERVICE moving company that has done over 12,000 military moves and is the #2 moving company in the country! The representative stated that they own their own trucks and have staff to handle our move directly, which was from Virginia to Pennsylvania. The representative also inflated the estimate that he gave us subsequently turning our (no more than) 6000 lb move into 10,983 lbs! His reason for this was so there wont be any surprise charges on delivery day. So you overestimate by almost 5,000 lbs? LIE! The inventory was also incorrect and NO ONE at the company cared to correct this despite the fact that Id pointed it out twice. We also inquired three times about receiving the weigh tickets and other paperwork. The rep said that they do NOT provide the weigh tickets unless the customer disputes something. When I asked how a customer is supposed to know what their move ACTUALLY cost, he then added that a customer could get a copy of the tickets if they requested. When I reached out to a representative in Quality Assurance he said the employee was incorrect and that ALL customers get a copy of the weigh tickets with their paperwork. I asked him why the representative would say that and he replied I do not know. So whom should I believe? LIES! BAIT and SWITCH: On 20 September 2019 with just 3 days before the scheduled pack-out, we were notified by an account manager that our moving agent would be a company by the name of GHSS. Moving agent?? I thought our move was with Colonial Van Lines?? So they in fact DO NOT provide this service, but instead brokered out the job to unlicensed and unknown movers whom they feel we should be comfortable with handling my household goods and allowing them into our home! The account manager couldnt even tell me what the acronym stood for or who the company was! This is in direct breach of our agreement and is the total opposite of what we were told when they solicited our business! UNETHICAL! The fact that we were never told this despite explaining our concerns about 3rd party contracting is in itself misleading. At this point Colonial had boxed us into a corner because we were now below the 5 days for which we could successfully and without penalty cancel our move and receive a full refund. I believe this action was very intentional and most likely standard procedure for this company. There was no possible way that this move could be salvaged and we called that night to cancel the job and I wrote a letter to their office outlining the many reasons why. This company has misrepresented itself as a Mover when they operate in fact as a broker. Their US DOT # states they are registered to move household goods, but not as a broker. They are using false advertising on their website that does not indicate Broker status, but identifies them as an "expert moving company with 50 years experience." BEWARE: Apparently, and you can read this on Yelp and Google, their agents have adopted an extortion policy of holding your household goods on their trucks until you pay whatever fee or price they demand. BOTTOM LINE: Colonial Van Lines are predators that lie to people just to get your deposit. They are deceitful, untrustworthy, and fraudulent scam artists! They use 3rd party movers and couldnt care less about your actual move.

I am updating my original review below from 1 star to 3 stars because colonial van lines has tried to compensate me for the struggles i have faced with them. Original review: "This is probably the worst moving service I have ever worked with. And I am moved A LOT. I was given a 7 day window (7/24-7/31) for delivery and it was delayed by 5 days past the window. Prior to the delivery, I kept being told that I would receive a phone call. but I had to continue to call to get updates because no one was calling me. After calling 3 day before the delivery date to get a more accurate delivery (because they didnt call me like they said they would) the person on the phone said that they were told that I changed the delivery date to august. I never said this, they have no proof of this, and none of the paperwork says august. This is very unprofessional. I was then told the expected delivery would be 7/29-7/31 because of this issue. I drove the 8 hours to my new place the night before. I call Friday to get an update. they then say new expected delivery is 8/1-8/4. I started work 7/31, so I had to go buy new work clothes since mine were packed away. then they called 8/1 and said the new delivery date was 8/4-8/6. They finally arrived 8/4. I asked multiple times for them to call me or text me when they arrive because I had work. No one called or texted. The only reason I saw them was because my work gave me the morning off and I saw the truck arrive. No on spoke english when it was delivered. Which is perfectly fine. But if youre going to tell me you will call me prior to delivery, then make sure you can actually speak to me. I definitely DO NOT recommend this service. You will save a lot of stress in the end if you just choose another service."
