After a visit to Dave and Buster's next door, my family decided to have dinner at Yard House. The experience was predictable. Some of the experience was very good. Our server was very nice, attentive and speedy. Food came out within a reasonable amount of time even though we dined during a busy Sunday evening. The atmosphere is what you can expect from a sports bar/restaurant chain. Lots of tables and booths, rock music playing over the speakers and many large screen TVs so you can watch the game while eating. No surprises here. I did appreciate that the music was not so loud that you can't hear the person sitting across from you. From the look of the menu, I guess I had higher hopes, but the food was lacking. My wife got an Asian-inspired Ahi Tuna Crunchy salad. The seared tuna was ok if not obviously re-constituted somehow, but the salad beneath it was swimming in a very salty vinaigrette dressing. My son got the Fish & Chips from the kids' menu. He did not eat much of it: each piece was mostly batter. Although nicely crispy, some of the batter was mealy and under-done and there was not so much fish at all. My Whiskey & Aged White Cheddar Burger was quite greasy. I gave half of it to my son since he didn't eat much of the Fish & Chips. My daughter's Mac & Cheese was nothing special. However, the appetizer we got, Chicken Nachos was good. Tortilla chips, cheese, chicken, guac, sour cream, chipotle sauce with jalapenos sprinkled on top. I guess it's hard to mess that up. Of course, Yard House's claim to fame is their extensive array of beers on tap. Their House Honey Blond is good. Think about what The Yard House might be and that's exactly what you'll get. No surprises. Have another round of beer.
