The Shade Place (Short Hills)

I really wanted to love The Shade Place but unfortunately I did not have a good experience. Prior to signing with the Shade Place, we had a consultation with California Closets which was fantastic! They were on the pricier side so naturally we shopped for pricing which is when we contacted Interior Motif / The Shade Place. I was assured they could match the design and functionality that California Closets had laid out in their proposal so I decided to give them a try. In comparison to the other company, there was a noticeable difference in how sloppily they worked. Everything was done fully remote and no samples were presented during the consultation. Our design was sent via text message -- a video of a computer screen with a baby crying in the back. I was very clear that I wanted a very custom look, specifically thick molding and cluster drilling. I provided specific measurements via email with the heights for all my handbags to fit in the shelving and the lengths of my garments to fit the hanging sections that were designed. Everything on the design rendering looked correct so I didn't think to question it. Our designer Shivani was not very hands on. We ended up having to request to speak to the owner, Stephan, for updates with our order. We were told the lead time was 4-6 weeks, which was not the case. On day 1 of the installation, no one at The Shade Place realized that the closet came sized incorrectly from the factory. Leaving no space for the thick, luxe trim I originally paid for to be installed. The owner Stephan did step in which was nice, however, all of the suggestions he offered were patch jobs -- using wood veneer trim to conceal all the areas where things were botched. It's been 2 months since my installation and my closet is already falling apart (SEE IMAGES ATTACHED) I was not offered anything to remedy the situation other than "free" temporary shades if we moved forward with them for our window treatments. I paid $4,000 for this project and now have to pay another $7,000 to redo the closet properly. Overall, if you are looking for a truly custom closet, with service that mirrors the quality of work. I DO NOT RECOMMEND going with The Shade Place.

The selection of design options, quality of products, and overall service are impeccable, right down to the very efficient installation. Shivani was on top of the complete process. I love my new blinds! Highly recommend.

Interior Motif is a great company. They offer a wide range of products from top manufacturers, do a great job of installation and supporting the product and they are local. The companys experience in the buildings in Hoboken allows them to know what blinds will work and how they will need to be installed. Highly recommended!
