The Valley Hospital Maternal Fetal Medicine

My OBGYN is affiliated with Valley Hospital, which means all my Maternal Fetal Health appointments are conveniently managed through their office for seamless document sharing and doctor communication. As I navigate my second pregnancy, I'm under closer monitoring due to an underlying heart condition. However, my experience with the MFM doctor has been unsettling. Her bedside manner leaves much to be desired, often leaving me feeling anxious and uncomfortable. Despite my clear stance against terminating my pregnancy, she persisted in raising the topic, which was disconcerting. My main grievance lies with the office staff, particularly the nurses. Their insensitive remarks, such as implying that sacrificing childcare for good care is acceptable, were both baffling and offensive. It seemed to suggest a bias favoring those with better financial means. Furthermore, the handling of prior authorizations was subpar. Despite my insurance requiring specific timing for approvals, an ultrasound order was placed without consideration, resulting in a denial. Resolving this issue required multiple calls, with one nurse scolding me and speaking over me during our interaction, which was unprofessional and uncomfortable. Despite my positive experience with my OB, the quality of care at this facility is disappointing. While I understand everyone has bad days, it's crucial for healthcare professionals to treat patients with the same level of respect and patience they expect in return. As I progress in my pregnancy, I'm reluctant to seek a new OB but deeply dissatisfied with the care provided at this specific facility.

When I came 3 years ago, I had a good experience each time. Now, I try to call and make an appointment and the schedulers literally never answer the phone. If you leave a message, they call you back from a different number from what you've called so if you are silencing unknown calls on your phone because of prevalent spam, it will send them to voicemail and you will continue to not be able to schedule an appointment. I've called 5 times today throughout the day and it feels like a colossal waste of time. It really shouldn't be this difficult to do something so easy. No idea what Valley is thinking.

Great doctors for the most part, nurses are great front desk fantastic, i gave such a low star because of the schedulers. Usually they have headset on, talking to other people while booking your appointments; they never pick up the phone and when they do, no type of care towards accomodating patients. Which surprises me because this is a high risk maternal doctors not a regular OB so why not work with patients schedule.

Pros: Great ultrasound techs (never a bad experience), and it's easy to make an appointment. I've never had to wait very long in the waiting room either. Cons: Doctors' beside manner leave something to be desired. Unnecessary followups were repeatedly scheduled, causing added stress and appointment fatigue.

If you are a current patient at Valley Hospital MFM and they schedule you with Dr Carolyn Zelop literally RUN. I promise you will be saving yourself from the worst appointment of of your pregnancy and meeting with a physician who lacks empathy, compassion, and understanding of trauma informed care.
