03/23/2021: YayI have made it! Finally wrapped up my 2021 hike-thru-D&R-Canal goal yesterday, 13.9 miles from the Northern Terminus of the D&R Canal in New Brunswick to Amwell Road in Somerset! Now I have finished hiking on the whole D&R Canal Trail of about 76 miles, accomplished about 111 miles! During the 1st three months of this year, I broke up the main canal and two feeder canal trails into 12 sections, among which I hiked alone round-trip 4 times, oneway 2 times with my family, and oneway 6 times with friend/friends. During these hikes, I have experienced sunny and warm weathers, or windy freezing days; I have hiked in soft and absorbing heavy snow which made every step difficult, or muddy spots; Ive seen different views along the trail and far beyond as trees were bare and vegetations died down thus vision was not restricted; Ive learned a lot of the history and amazed by Irish immigrants who built the canal; I have been wondering how goods were transported thru the lock areas in the canal (still cant figure out)... These hikes brought me many precious lifetime experiences and has become and will definitely be a part of my proud hiking memories. For the Northern Terminus, its located right by a Boathouse and Boyd Park on the side of NJ 18 Service Road in New Brunswick. The river view is wide open, the park is very neat. If you are interested in graffiti, keep walking along the trail thru under the bridge till George Street. You will get to see a graffiti gallery along the trail. It is pretty noisy though since its right by NJ 18. I would avoid it if its a windy day as it could turn really dusty and nasty.
