There is a smaller farm associated with the large Helas operstion called Acorn ot was the property og the Wstate of Virginia Hellas and controlled by her son William Droulia whom I was employed as captain of his yacht, THE AERA, It is truly a beautiful operation they have To my knowledge Harry Sinclair (oil) or Piere Lorili (?) (tobacco) was the original ownners and them it was sold to one of them as second owner and then William Helllas purchased and his estate is still in ownership i think they had sonething to do with the beginning of the famous Whitney race and the farm itself very instrumental in the race horse sport

I worked for Helis Stock Farm about 25 years ago Ed Lovenduski the forman for the farm gave me the opportunity to work on the farm. It was a great experience and I to come his day still keep in touch with Ed and Linda they are like family. I learned alot from Ed about farming. The farm is full of all kinds of history. The farm used to raise horses for racing. They had a jockey's. Boarding house a stud barn a half mile enclosed race track only one left in world to my knowledge. The farm had 8 houses for farm laborer's also the farm had two mansions for the owners. The farm property covers approximately 4000 acres it has been converted into a crop and stock farm. Beans, corn, straw, and hay. About 200 head of beef. A work shop for farm equipment maintenance a carpenter's shop for building maintenance and they had an awesome Allis chalmers collection. Bueatiful gates fences a carriage house some old carriages. A very unique place to work. I cherish the experience and memories and friendships I made there. It was a good experience for a country boy from Michigan's Upper peninsula I grew up working construction and little farms and logging in Michigan's woods. I spent 25 years in Mackinac Island driving and breaking horses all a great experience. I want to thank Ed and Linda also Bill the owner for the job out there

Can remember ridding past the farm in the early 50's with my grandfather when he visted friends in the area, lived in nearby Columbus. Their used to be a enclosed horse training barn called the Glass top barn that had an indoor track for training horses if I remember correctly. It was destroyed by fire sometime in the late 50's or early 60's if my memory serves me correctly. Also can remember my grandfather mentioning Sinclair Lewis the author, did he have connection to the farm ??? Now retired and moved back to Columbus in 1986 to the peace and tranquility of rural Jersey, Jobstown is only a ten minute ride from my home. If anyone remembers the glass top barn or Sinclair Lewis connection please leave a comment ... thanks
