Maxwell Place (Building 1125 Maxwell)

We've been staying at the 1125 building for almost two years. It is a relatively new building (built in 2008) with great amenities. However, our experience has been mostly negative and I wanted to share them so that new renters/buyers are aware of what you might be signing up for. 1. Noise - it is unbelievable how little soundproof this building has. We can hear the dog dropping its toy upstairs (was in a long-drawn battle with them upstairs to put down carpet); we can hear our neighbor's screaming baby daily on the left side; and can hear our other neighbor on the phone or making smoothies in the morning almost daily (we heard her say 'have a great day!' one time loud and clear). You would think that this concrete building would have a good soundproof mechanism built-in but it's not the reality. So for new renters/owners, pray that you have good neighbors and research soundproof installations if you're sensitive to noise. 2. Management company is incompetent at best. For the noise issue with our upstairs neighbor, it took about 6 months for it to be addressed. The rule was simple on the residents handbook - if there was a noise complaint, the apartment needs to have carpets put down. However for this simple matter, the management company made us go through a hell of a process. We were told that we needed to document each complaint - call the front desk every time it happens so they can get security to come up stairs to listen to the noise. First of all, how do you expect us to call someone at 5am in the morning when we were woken up for the dog upstairs? Secondly, what's the likelihood of the noise still being there when the security shows up? Most of the time they didnt even come! We had to involve our landlord eventually and he was extremely nice to talk to the owner upstairs to get it resolved. For new renters/owners, I understand the circumstances can be very personal and not the same for all. But lower your expectations.
