Despite the name and their publicity, there is no oncologist here. Visits are done virtually from across the country by doctors who will never meet nor examine your pet. They do not allow follow-up conversations with the remote oncologist, and they cannot follow up with any kind of treatment. Pet owners are given a generic list of surgeons, some of which are not local, and are expected to continue the process on their own. When doing so, expect to pay for the second facility's oncology exam, as they will not act on Pet Cure's. We paid $250 for the consultation and then had to pay again at one of the recommended facilities. This also caused a serious delay in treatment of the pet's cancer.

We were so lucky to find this facility; our dog was diagnosed with a meningioma, and every other place we called was offering initial appointments weeks and months out. Because PetCure specializes in one thing, we were able to get an appointment in days. Having called so many places (many which didn't even bother calling back!) I would not recommend anyplace else if your pet has cancer and needs treatment. We had an excellent experience throughout. Our dog came here for a consult and then the CT-scan, and then 3 days of radiation treatment, as well as follow-up visits. (As a side recc, while your pet is getting treatment you should grab a meal at Love of Grub - excellent food, and there are definitely not-good food places in the area because we also went to those before we found Love of Grub.) Everyone on the team was patient, kind, and very helpful - even when it was not about them. At our last follow-up visit, we noticed something on our dog's paw which they referred us to our primary vet to check out; this turned out to be a sarcoma, though we didn't end up treating it given our dog's age and condition. What was most memorable was that in our dog's final days, when our primary care vet was not able to see her, we were able to connect with the PetCure team by email (even though they are closed Fri-Sun when this happened, we were able to exchange emails and got responses with reasonable times, pretty amazing considering it was off-hours and we were not even paying them for any of this). They helped us to determined that we needed to get our dog to an ER, who helped us recognize how quickly our dog was declining and to make the challenging final decision for an in-home passing a couple days later. Even though the treatment did not end up being successful for our dog (or honestly, maybe it was and it was something else in the end - she was almost 17 and health problems were cropping up weekly at this point), the team provided incredible service and we firmly believe they enabled us to give our dog the full care we needed and were able to provide, so that we could send her to her final rest knowing we had done everything possible to extend her quality of life. The team's bedside manner and customer care is impeccable, as many of these reviews attest. No animal likes a hospital, and our dog didn't seem to mind this one so much, even wandering around like it was somebody's house. We hope not to have to return to PetCure in future, but it's such a relief to know that if needed (or if a friend needs a recc) we know such an amazing facility nearby. We rest easier knowing our dog had a wonderful life, and part of that was the final treatment we were able to get from the Clifton, NJ PetCure Oncology team, giving us the extra time we needed to do all the things we wanted with our dog and to say goodbye.

The staff and vets here made a stressful experience much more pleasant for both me and my dog. I feel lucky to live near such a state of the art facility. My dog was treated for an MCT in her chest which could not be excised completely by her surgery. Daisy is a high anxiety little dog, but the vets here are experts at dealing with stressed dogs and I have to applaud the anesthesiologist for finding the right mix for her.

Navigating your pet's cancer care can be difficult, but it is our goal to offer the best advice as possible, even if that means recommending you seek the opinion of a specialty we do not offer, such as traditional surgery. And while it is common practice for specialists to charge for consultations regardless of what practice they are associated with, we understand that it can be cost prohibitive for some pet owners to seek the expertise needed to consider all options available to their pet. While we do offer medical oncology and radiation oncology at our site, our oncologists are both currently remote. They work directly with our in-clinic veterinarians and qualified staff members to ensure all of our patients receive the best care possible. Our oncologists and in-clinic veterinarians are happy to help field and answer any questions you may have during your appointment or even after, though this may require you to leave a message and await a call back if the doctor is not available at the time of your call. If you would like to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to reach out to Shane, our Director of Operations, at (973) 772-9902. We wish you and your pet all the best.

Business Response on Google Aug 19th, 2023
JJ, we apologize that we were unable to help you schedule an in-person appointment with an oncologist. We currently have one part-time medical oncologist on-site and are actively seeking a full-time oncologist to replace a doctor who recently left our practice. The need for veterinary oncology services in the tri-state area does exceed available appointments at specialty centers and we are sorry if you had to phone multiple places to find help for your pet. PetCure has been treating pets with cancer at our Clifton location since 2015. We use a team approach consisting of on-site board-certified specialists and multiple on-site clinicians that offer excellent patient care and collaborate with our remote oncologists to ensure that pets with cancer have access to the important care they need in a timely fashion. If this was unclear, we apologize for the miscommunication. We do hope that you have found an oncologist to help your pet. If you would like to speak on the this topic further, we invite you to call our Director of Operations, Shane Lawless at 973.772.9902.
