    Built circa 1725 on land originally owned by the builder's father, the Derrick Van Veghten House has a long and colorful history spanning the past three centuries. It is said that General George Washington visited the house in 1779. Currently, the Van Veghten House is owned and looked after by the Somerset County Historical Society. The house is also part of the Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route National Historic Trail. The house is open to visitors every Tuesday and one Saturday a month.
