Very disappointing customer service at the front desk in the retail area of the farm. I had driven there from Meredith to make a purchase of the sampler box of mushrooms (which is about 3 pounds at a reduced price). The woman at the desk told me that *only* the owner of the farm could do that transaction, and that he was not in that day. Bummed, but still wanting fresh mushrooms for Thanksgiving, I then asked her to sell me a mixture of a few varieties at the regular price per pound. She said ok, and disappeared to go put that order together. Just 2-3 minutes later, the owner of the farm popped into the retail area with a friendly hello. (I guess he was, in fact, in that day...) He asked if he could help me and I asked him for the sampler box. He said "Sure! I'll do that for you. But the mushrooms will be in a bag, not a box, ok? I'll be right back." And then he, too, disappeared, to go assemble the box for me. A few minutes later, the original staff member (Melia?) re-appeared with my 1 pound of mushrooms, brusque, frowning, and in a rush. I politely asked if everything was ok but she did not answer as she worked to label my purchase. When I told her the owner was now putting together the (larger) sampler box, she was curt, and told me that the owner should *not* have offered to sell me that because the pricing on that is *not sustainable* for the business and that I was to now purchase what she had prepared for me. (She is not an owner of the business, I learned.) Furthermore, she insinuated that I was being untruthful when I told her that the owner, himself, had just offered to sell me the Sampler Box. I asked her to text the owner to check with him, but she did not want to do that. She reiterated that she was going to sell me just the 1 pound at the regular retail price, and that the owner offers the sampler pack only once to each customer and then never again. (This was new information to me.) Eventually, she reluctantly offered to summon the owner to discuss what he had told me a few minutes prior. I declined, as I was not in the mood then to create more tension over a few dollars worth of mushrooms. I left the store with my 1 pound of (very tasty) mushrooms, disappointed and unhappy. I will not return.
