Beautiful facility, hair-dresser is nice, cleaners are great, food is good. The value wasnt there for us. It was the least expensive option we could find around and should have known something was fishy. I asked during leasing process about annual rent increase and they assured me verbally no major increases incremental if anything. I would estimate that in 5 years my relative was staying there, the rent went up 9% annually! So eventually we (and many others) couldnt afford it anymore and went through the very unfortunate circumstance of having to uproot relative AGAIN. The cost is a total bait and switch. Then after the move Birch Heights said my relative could have security deposit back but its been 3 months and still a check in the mail story. I dont know if they are short on money and robbing peter to pay paul. The other big thing about value we didnt realize is we were thinking this is worth it because of the food being included. Elderly people tend to eat lightly and my relative did not want to do a sit down restaurant everyday never mind 3 times per day. So at best they would go down once per day but they didnt always want to and was forced to. Getting dressed, socializing just to get a sandwich. They have no pick-up option to bring it back to their room. They charge 5 dollars to delivery from inside the building and my relative said it was frown upon to ask for it. So we ended up having to buy groceries all the time anyways. If your relative is still fairly independent and not super social it would have been less expensive to do a meal service and a private cleaner in another complex that has similar amenities.
