One of my all-time favorite drives was my trip on US 50 from Carson City, Nevada to Holden, Utah. Fantastic scenery the whole way. I made the journey on a weekday in January; no one else on the road but me. Really enjoyed the loneliness, as well as the sound of singing coyotes each time I stopped in the middle of nowhere. Fuel up whenever you have the chance and make sure your car is in good running condition, but by all means, take this excellent trip yourself.

US Route 50, America's Lonliest Road. I suppose some would find this drive therapeutic, some would find it maddening! The pic says it all. Be aware - it is a LONG way between gas stations, no rest stops, and there are open-range ranches around. At night it can be blindingly dark. Donkeys, horses, and cows can walk right across the road and you will not see them until you are right up on them. I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me one night as I kept seeing shadows around my Jeep, until I realized there were black cows on the road. There is some great stargazing in the region!

I have been on this highway twice, first time going east, next going west. It is amazing, sometime you can see a car coming at you for 2 hours, and when you pass it, you wave at other, it comes natural, because you feel like your alone. It is a bucket list must. I did stop at one place heading east about 8 hours outside of Reno, the people said they go to the supermarket and it's a 5 hour drive one way. For me, I stopped in Ely to get directions to a ghost town. There are snakes out there, I advise anyone to stop in middle of a long stretch of road with no one ahead of behind you, the relieve yourself. I can say on each trip I only saw three or four cars, there is no one out there, I mean no one, I had long stretches of hours without seeing one car or person around me.
