Billy & Rosemary Vassiliadis Elementary School

LOVE this school! I have 2 kids that attend here and the teachers and staff are amazing.  I have only good things about this school and would highly recommend it to anyone.

I wish I could give them a zero star rating. It's extremely rare for me to leave a negative review, but the school is absolutely atrocious.We received absolutely zero support for my son who is legally blind. He was falling further and further behind and reading, and I was told I could not bring in an advocate, I was told to medicate him, so he would. "try harder and focus more" and I had to fight to keep him from being held back even though he has an exceptionally high IQ, I was not behind on anything else. There's much more but suffice it to say, the school is just shockingly, unprofessional, and I couldn't pull my son out of there fast enough.We ended up moving back to California this year and my son goes to school in Carlsbad. Within three weeks, the school had completed their thorough evaluation and set up an IEP for my son. They had the appropriate sized print books and other resources he needed, including helping him catch up, which he is just about there now.During their evaluation, we discovered my son has an IQ that is around 98% of his age group. And yet Vasiliadis wanted to hold my son back rather than simply provide larger print books and additional reading time. The school needs to come out of the dark ages and do a better job of providing support for these children. I spoke with so many other parents that said they were struggling with the same thing. And on top of that, they are so rude and so condescending, it's hard to grasp how they think it's OK. When a parent asks "what about an IEP?" And the principal laughed out loud at you and response, " you would have to know what that is before we can even discuss it." it's just wrong.
