We first started with home care in 2017 with another company. They provided excellent care for five years until the company was sold . The new owners did all the wrong things , so we went to First light. Not only did they provide quality care, they did so with a feeling or real concern and kindness. Shannon and Jesus listened to our needs and tried to fulfill our needs with the fight people. My wife is now in a memory care facility, but I still contract with First Light to provide some extra care because of my wife's condition. I rate First Light 5 stars because they earn it.

Unprofessional, unknowledgeable, and underpaid staff. They dont know how to change someone who is bed bound and their employees claim they dont know how to perform this skill. However if you speak to their management, they all go through the same training that DOES go over how to change someone go is bed bound. Weve gone through so many different PCA employees because none of them can provide the care were asking for. Weve continually asked for someone who can do light house keeping for my stepdads room and someone to be able to change his diaper in bed and then change his clothes in bed and bathe him. Weve spoken with Jesus and have given him our expectations for the standard of care and each and every time weve been let down. Weve had young workers come into our house and stay on their phone texting for their whole shift, workers who have been extremely rough with my step dad, workers who will just stand there or sit at our table ignoring what weve asked them to do, and workers who falsify how long theyve been at our home caring for my step dad. Youve got a lack of communication between employees and their management, a lack of training to fulfill the care needs and expectations of the dying patients, and a lack of respect for the families and primary caregivers of the dying patient. If you are looking at this service - please find another one. They place an unfair burden on their patients with the lack of quality care they offer and they place an unfair burden on their employees because they are NOT TRAINED OR PHYSICALLY CAPABLE OF FULFILLING THWIR ROLE!!!! I called the 24/7 hotline and asked for someone to be able to come and help my mom change my stepdad because the worker who came did not know how to and didnt want to hurt her own back. She called her supervisor or nurse and they wanted to walk her through it over the phone MY DYING STEPFATHER IS NOT GOING TO BE YOUR GUINEAPIG TO LEARN HOW TO DO YOUR JOB! If he gets hurt - we will get a lawyer. So we sent the worker home because she was not able to fulfill this task. My mother has health issues and needs help with my stepdad. Thats why we sought out this service. But it is unacceptable that they claim to have a 24/7 hotline for emergencies and extra help when they cant even have someone change a diaper. I asked to speak to someone higher than Jesus and the nurse was hesitant to give me any information. Shannon, I guess is the owner of the business. So Shannon, if you ever read this, honey please invest in proper training for your employees. Please teach them how to properly care for the folks that are living their final days. Please teach them how to change diapers. Please teach them to stay off of their phones and avoid falsifying hours worked. If you have too many clients and not enough workers - STOP ACCEPTING PATIENTS!!!!!! It terrifies me that this is what you consider as acceptable and quality care. I need someone to contact me ASAP. Look at Ramiro Melendrez file and contact us ASAP.

Considering First Light Home Care of Southern Nevada as your choice to care for a loved one? Before you make that decision READ THIS FIRST!!!! I promise you this review will be insightful when considering First Light as your care provider choice for your loved one. December 2019 my 83 year old mother fell and broke her arm and was unable to care for herself. Family stepped in, but within weeks she continued to decline physically and then began to decline mentally becoming increasingly aggressive, destructive and unstable. Like many first time experiences we were uncertain how to move forward. We contacted primary care and a few specialists, but appointments took time and family was no longer able to care for mom. Like you, we searched Google and Yelp for reviews to find a company or person we felt comfortable with to care for mom while we figured it out. We spoke extensively with seven companies, but in the end First Light Home Care of Southern Nevada and Shannon Blackerby were the clear choice. Just as arrangements were made mom was admitted to the hospital for several months. During this period Shannon would call about once a week, but not just to check on mom, but interestingly she would ask how we were doing, she was always willing to take time to answer questions and help us navigate the complicated world of aging and disability services and Medicaid. When mom finally came home, with one phone call Shannon and her First Light team were there with caring and compassionate people experienced and who understand how to work with people suffering from Dementia and Alzheimer. What I want the reader to understand is First Light of Southern Nevada is so much more than a service company, they are a compassionate organization, who are willing to take whatever time is necessary to help families understand their needs and resources available to them, and then if necessary, they can provide the quality and compassionate care we all want for our loved one. To Shannon and the entire First Light of Southern Nevada team, thank you for being our support system and the care you provided to mom. Cynthia and I will never forget your compassion and your help during our time of need.
