This placed used to be a lot better 10 years ago. My recent experiences have not been so good. I came in for a suspected hidden inguinal hernia in March 2022 and was told that it absolutely could not possibly be an inguinal hernia. Dr. Mercer looked at a prior image I had and said in exact words, "well, it could be the start of one.. but I wouldn't treat it with surgery." I trusted him. He performed a laparotomy and came up empty-handed. We thought it was fixed at first, but it returned a couple of months later once I was able to become physically active again; the surgery had merely reduced the hernia temporarily. I went to the app and submitted a follow-up message and nobody replied; I figured they wouldn't. Now I know for sure it is inguinal because *I can reduce it manually*, but nobody will believe me at this point because of the exploratory procedure I had done. Two surgeons have made serious judgment errors and now I am basically stuck in chronic pain, waiting for it to get worse. Some days, it feels like the bowel is about to become strangulated. I will probably end up having to go to the ER to get this fixed. I had asked multiple doctors about ordering an MRI as well, and they all refused to do it. According to my research, MRI scans are 92% sensitive to hidden inguinal hernias, whereas CT scans are only 20% sensitive. Just recently, I received an automated message in the NE Med app telling me that messaging a doctor through the app may result in a charge. If this is considered the "norm" in the health industry, then consider me severely disappointed. If I've learned anything from this experience, it is that I should always trust myself and never back down when I know something to be true.
