My mom was at Brookestone Meadows for both rehab and long term care. She liked it there and thought very highly of everyone who cared for her. The staff took great care of mom and were very attentive. They also had tons of activities and the food was good as well. I cant say enough about this wonderful place and their caring staff.

Truthfully, there were only few things I could praise Brookestone for in my dads three months of staying there in skilled nursing. Those of which are: his physical and occupational therapists were incredible and one of his nurses, Stacy, was just absolutely awesome. Otherwise, I was not impressed in virtually any aspect. My dad has severe aphasia and apraxia, he can rarely and just barely ever make a sentence out. The one full sentence Ive heard him speak in a very long time was I dont like it here.. I found it so heartbreaking that my dad cannot reciprocate conversations I have with him, but fully communicated his impressions on Brookestone. I could go on, on, on, on, and on, about various incidents my family experienced with Brookestone. Not only minor things but also various recurring things and severe things I had tried to bring attention to but were ignored .. multiple times. I could maybe understand under different care level circumstances peoples satisfaction with this place, but for a man that is vulnerable and cannot move nor speak, subjects him to a lot of unspoken, but very important, emotions in feeling helpless in an apparently respected and reputable facility. Not everyone can read minds, but I find it necessary and decent for a man to be entitled to showers, bottom changes, supervision with food, monitored with his reactions to certain medicines, and I cannot emphasize this one enough: a call light. Specifically: I could only count on one hand how many showers my dad had in three months, he was barely changed and had numerous severe infections here, he would drop his fork or whole tray of food in his room alone and couldnt pick it up because he cannot move and wasnt given his call light, he had very bad reactions with medicines multiple times and I was dismissed once and told that he was just tired. when he couldnt even tell me if he remembered my name (he ended up going to the ER under family orders and it was found that he was overdosing on a new medication that was not the only time he had gone for that), he had also been in the ER several times for infections. Lastly, he could never call for help if he needed it because no one gave him his call light. One day I had walked in to visit him and the assistants left him in his wheelchair directly in front of an empty wall. No call light, no mobility, no voice to speak up. A lot of situations arose because of the amount of times the staff failed to give him something so simple yet so necessary like a call light. So, so, very disappointing. It cannot be that difficult to consider a human being, especially in a chosen line of work. He deserved so much more. My dad lost a lot of pride in many adjustments here but he tried so hard to remain level headed. He never demanded anything but he was always so grateful for anything. Hes a very optimistic guy and to witness him slowly become depressed in this facility is something I can never let go. Im not only writing this to seem as a protective daughter and family member, Im writing this because it is truthful and important situations I am aware of that we faced during our time involved with this facility. Weve since transferred to him to another facility and hes glowing and relieved to be treated as not only a person but treated as the person he is. Hes being given dignity, respect, time, and love. And a call light, always. I wish that other people can find their happiness here, but it in no way was for my dad nor my family. We are not bitter, just incredibly disappointed.
