I wear a size 14-15 so its a pain to find anything but the folks at Ph.D. Skis got me fitted with everything I needed to ski.

This is THE ski shop in Bozeman. For over 20 years Kevin, Stu and their team have made sure my boots fit properly and my skis are tuned and ready to rip, all the while sharing stories and stoking the fire. As my feet change and my skiing style evolves, they continue to pay attention to what is right FOR ME, not simply what the hot trends might be. PhD is more than a shop you go to buy gear, it is the beating heart of our local ski community. Go for the boots, stay for the stories and return year after year to a place where everybody knows your name, and theyre always glad you came

Unfortunately I had a very poor experience with PhD Skis. I read the reviews that praised the shop highly and went in specifically looking for comfortable boots to replace the boots I bought in high school ~10 years ago that were never comfortable to begin with. I didn't do any research ahead of time and trusted the staff to know more about boot fitting than me. We tried on several different boots and he finally put me in a boot that fit like a dream, but for some reason he insisted that they were too big. He wanted to put me in other boots that weren't comfortable. I finally asked him if I could size down in the comfortable boots and when we tried those I expressed that I was nervous about how they felt on my toes and he spent 30 minutes talking me into the boots that were too small. We heat molded with toe caps and when I put the boots on after I again expressed that they felt too tight on my toes and he told me that was what it should feel like. My bindings had to be re-mounted to fit the smaller boot and we decided to tune up my skis so overall we spent over $800. My first time wearing them a few days later I almost couldn't get the left boot on, when I did finally get them on my toes were painful immediately and after about 30 minutes my toes started going numb. By the middle of my first run the front half of both my feet were completely numb and I ended up having to take the boots off and sit in the lodge the rest of the day. When I took the boots back to explain that I had been talked into the wrong size the other guy that I worked with was kind enough(the only reason there's two stars instead of one) but even after admitting that I'd been sold the wrong size boot basically said there was nothing they could do except drill out the toes, re-heat mold, and hope for the best. We did that, we drove up to Big Sky and skiied one more run with the same results and now I have $600 boots with drilled out toes that are completely useless. His only other suggestion was to try to re-sell the boots privately, and I live in the midwest, so there's not much market for performance ski boots out here. If you're looking to waste money on a terribly fitted boot, go on down to PhD Skis. If you want a comfortable boot, I'd suggest shopping elsewhere.
