Met with Dr. Whitworth today for the first time. Was looking to discuss adjustments to medication prescribed by his predecessor and possible new medicational therapy.
t was clear from our abbreviated interview he had not read the psychiatric notes of his predecessor nor those of the therapist I also see through the MHC.
After giving him a brief explanation of my mental health history and an overview of medications I've taken, continued to ask me why I was there to see him and how he could help me in a way to suggest he didn't see there being any merit to my appointment with him.
Expressed surprise and skepticism at the fact that in spite of my mental health history, including co-morbid personality disorders, I'm pursuing permanent disability. After detailing the history of abuse in my family resulting in PTSD, questioned where exactly the abuse was in my life.
When at the 35 minute mark I stated that I recognized he hadn't read my file and would try to cover as much ground as possible with the time remaining, replied that I only had thirty minutes to begin with anyway and that I had already exceeded my time.
Body language and facial expressions suggested disbelief and dismissal: eyes narrow, head to one side, mouth slightly open suggesting he was having difficulty accepting the history I was telling him.
Felt like a panhandler on the street trying to convince a passerby to give me a dollar for food; I excused myself and apologized for taking his time, left feeling angry, ashamed and confused.
