I wanted to donate some items to family service because I've heard through the community that they are better able to help locals than some other organizations. The donation process was easy: I went during the hours they specified on their site, I pulled around the back of the building and the donation area is a drive through. I was so happy they were able to make use of the extra baby items that my kids had grown out of. I hope they can help some other family!

They do help with a lot if you really need it. The only issue I have is that I have gotten really sick eating from their client-choice food room. I have found some items there that expired back in mid-2022 and most of their stuff sitting out expires the same day, or already went bad (lots of MOLD in fruits). I have no clue as to why this is. do people only donate food going bad? if so, why is is accepted? Is there an overstock of food in the warehouse to where they have to get rid of the rotten food first? Something is fishy, and riverstone health has been contacted to hopefully correct this behavior. It mainly concerns the rotten food being given out. I don't feel good getting this free food just to throw most of it away. it's wasteful. To those donating, please consider a CASH donation, it makes it easier to have fresher food that isn't wasted.

Thanks so much for your review, Michelle! We try to make the donation process as smooth as possible. We too hope that a new family will be able to enjoy these baby items as much as your children have!

Thank you for your review, JM and for bringing your concerns to our attention. We partner with grocery stores from around the city to receive direct donations. We also have partnerships with Feeding America. Additional donations come in through food drives, and private donations. Our staff does their very best to check dates and the quality of the food when it arrives. There are times when canned and boxed goods come in from donations that have reached their expiration. We will ensure that this is vetted more thoroughly. Produce often has a short shelf life, so we do our very best to get in on the shelf before it expires. We in no way have an overstock in the warehouse. We move over 250,000 pounds of food every month to ensure that nothing is sitting on shelves. As with all things, we will strive to ensure quality. Safety is our number one concern, and we take it very seriously. Please feel free to reach out to Ryan Cremer at [email protected] to discuss this issue in more detail.
