Bolder Industries has been operating our Maryville location since 2015 and has made significant investments into the facility and the community over that time. In 2022, we completed a major $18 million expansion of the plant to increase our production volumes and provide more clean tech job opportunities in the area. Unfortunately, we recently learned that a part of the new equipment installed during this expansion has not operated properly on an intermittent basis—this malfunction is responsible for the strong odors you describe. Furthermore, the sensors that were installed delivered incorrect readings to our staff at the plant; making our team less aware of the issue than they should have been. Based on our data, the malfunctioning equipment would have caused the unpleasant odor for several days in late Jan and Feb 2023. To be clear, fixing this problem has nothing to do with profits. In fact, when this equipment malfunctions it costs Bolder Industries significant losses as well. So, we are very motivated to solve the problem and are working diligently with the original equipment manufacturer and our engineering partners to solve the issue. We are also working on mitigation measures that will reduce or eliminate the odor while we work on a long-term solution. MDNR has contacted our team about the matter, and we are working closely with them on a corrective action plan. So, please be assured that the state has followed through as they are required to do and we are grateful to have more knowledge from you, the community, and MDNR about the problem so that we can work to rectify it as quickly as possible. In recent weeks, we have made significant progress on improving this problem and expect to have it resolved completely very soon.Again, we hear you and appreciate your desire to protect the community.
