I live in Kearney MO. American Family Agents only help you when they can review your policy and upsell you more coverage. Agents come and go. Every time they reassign me to an agent further away. My agent is now over an hour away even though I have an American Family agent in my local shopping center less than a mile away. I am old school, I I prefer to talk face to face. Out of the question unless they can sell me more insurance. They dont allow you to transfer to a agent close to you. I had been a customer since 1986.

I called in to find out why my policy increased $20 a month. Madison, Rep that answered the call, was not customer friendly or understanding in any way. Her attitude was one of "I do not have time to answer these questions" and definitely she forgot courtesy to a paying customer. Her answer was cryptic and unprofessional. She interrupted me twice saying she was looking up the information if I would just give her a minute. The answer she gave me - the state increased so we increased as did State Farm and any other insurance company in Missouri. When I repeated what she found, which I told her has been the standard answer I have received from every company I have dealt with in Missouri recently, instead of showing empathy she wanted to know if she could help me make a payment. I told her no. I said goodbye and hung up and paid my bill online as I always do since the site is now functional. I have dealt with many customer service reps over the years with this agency and have never been treated this way by anyone in the Rick Mulder Agency office, which is the only reason I gave the agency 2 stars instead of 1.

Does Rick Mulder exist? Until today, I considered myself a proud customer of Rick Mulder. I have used AmFam since 1987. But when my car was rear-ended on September 13, the facade that now is the local insurance agency finally crumbled. I couldn't reach anyone local on the phone. I didn't find out till today that AmFam corporate *doesn't allow* them to handle calls. On 9/13, though, I forwarded the other driver's insurance card and DL to the Mulder Agency, and they said they'd forward it. They didn't. Corporate eventually called to say my part was $1k, and they weren't "finding" the other driver. Eventually, the blessed Gerber Collision Center sorted that out, but on 10/24 Gerber said State Farm was totalling my car, and SF would call me. Of course SF didn't, but I wasn't worried, because I'm a Rick Mulder customer! They would help me, I knew. And -- they emailed that the car was not totalled, it was getting fixed. Because they hadn't looked for the guy. Yesterday I called to check on the repair and learned from Gerber that my sweet baby is indeed totalled. I called the Mulder Agency again, and that's when I found out about the phones. I had some questions about my coverage, and I asked corporate to ask Mulder's office to call me. But no one called. Why did I think they would? So I went over there. I had to ring a doorbell. A man came to the door, and I don't think he was prepared to let me in, but I squeezed past anyway. I asked them if they could help me (no, they are *not allowed by corporate* to help customers!) and what they do there ("write policy"). They do not care that they have my business. I was interrupting their day. They were barely able to answer my questions. Everything that has happened to me is irrelevant to them, to the extent that they would have paid to fix my car, even though I was rear-ended, if it meant no one would have to do anything besides cut the check. If I had not refused to pay the deductible, they would have taken responsibility for fixing the car and then raised my rates as if it were my fault. They have both my home and auto, and they do not care if I leave. My business means nothing to them, and friends, neither does yours. The old-school idea of an insurance agent is a myth, at least at AmFam. Does Rick Mulder exist? He wasn't there. Legally, he must exist, surely. But who cares? Not Rick Mulder.
