I felt the need to share my experience with UBS because I do believe that it is a wonderful idea to have a mental health urgent care facility in Joplin. The execution is something to be desired. Now, I understand, as a mental health professional taking walk-ins, it is extremely difficult to establish rapport with your clients. I think all of the therapists I have seen at UBS have been competent, and empathetic counselors. I say this to tell those reading that you might not feel like you are getting the help you need because you simply have not had time to build a therapeutic relationship with the counselor. The counselor at UBS will most likely evaluate you for suicidal ideation, assess your current coping skills, help you establish more coping skills, and connect you to outpatient services. When I first went, I felt like I just needed to talk, and I felt unheard. Upon further reflection, I realized that a counselor can only do so much for you on a walk-in basis. This is a good place to go if you are not established with a regular counselor or psychiatrist, or if you need some support in between appointments. However, if you need regular therapy, please consider going to Hope Springs, or another counseling center in the area. Christ's Church of Oronogo also has wonderful counselors who will help you, as does Mount Hope Christian Counseling Center. As far as psychiatry at UBS goes, most of the times that I have been there, there has not been a psychiatrist on duty. I know it's just staffing issues, but again, if you need medication, consider establishing yourself with a provider at Hope Springs or Mercy for continued care. If you are reading this, please know that you are not alone, and there is hope and healing in your future. Reach out for help wherever you can.

Came in today after recently moving to area and 1- waited 1 month for yesterdays virtual appt w an online psychiatrist who then Told me he can't take me as patient 2- jumped to zocdoc and snagged an appt for today...3 hrs away! Halfway there, they cxld Now almost out of meds! Googled out of desperation and found this!! This group was my port in the storm From the intake to my session w Dr Goad - they were pros. Treated successfully and major holiday med crisis averted! What a wonderful community service....behavioral health emergencies often don't get the attention they deserve. This should be a model for other communities. Thx Michele

This place has the RUDEST unprofessional employees I have ever had to deal with in the medical field. They were careless on how to talk to people and when getting vitals taken wasnt even sympathetic about my senior mother tripping and almost falling on there machines. Then when the " nurse practitioner" came in his bedside manner was very disturbing. Not only was he not helpful but wouldn't listen and threatened not to help. Treated her like she was some junkie off of the street and then informed me not to talk down to him. I will be pursuing some sort of action to this.
