So I recently switched over from Spectrum Mobile because it kept dropping calls and prior to Spectrum I had been a lifetime AT&T user. I have had the same cell number for over 30 years. Now that I'm back with AT&T they have made sure that i'm stuck with them for 3 years. Not via contract but by the bad deal that i made with them. First i got into a 3 year payment plan for the new Z-Fold phone (which i am thrilled with). They sell the phone for $1900 but they offer you up to $800 for your old phone. Sounds great right! Until I looked up the cost of the Z-Fold at Best Buy and found that I could have gotten the phone for $1100 without giving them my old phone. Here's where it gets tricky. So after seeing my first bill which was double what i was expecting, I wanted to pull out of the deal so I inquired about getting my phone back because I felt the monthly plan charge was misrepresented to me as well, I found out that I cannot get my phone back and there is a penalty for paying the new phone off early because the $800 promised for you old phone is also prorated. They have effectively figured out a way to lock you down for 3 years without a contract. Move over car dealers and bankers, At&t is every bit as despicable as some of you. If i'm smart enough to figure out their hustle, i'm smart enough to figure a way out. Please ask all the right questions in all your dealings with all of your purchases. If you are going to do business with this company, please do what I will be doing moving forward and go and purchase your phone separately from another business so that you aren't stuck with the deceptive practices.
