Under no circumstance would I recommend renting a Crawford Construction property. I would actually highly advise against it. During the year I lived in a Crawford Construction property, Elizabeth Crawford, our landlord, lost my rent check and accused me of never turning it in when I gave it to her in person. Elizabeth regularly entered our house at any time of the day without notification or even the courtesy of a knock, even going as far as attempting to enter my room without asking. After asking her to notify us if anyone (especially maintenance workers) would be in our house, she accused me of being racist. This came after I walked out of my bathroom and into my bedroom, only to find a maintenance man I had never met sitting on my bedroom floor. As nine 22-year-old women, my roommates and I felt Elizabeth had no regard for our safety or well-being. After calling me racist for not wanting this man in my room unannounced, she informed me that it would be impossible to notify me because she doesn't even know when he comes by. The defamatory statements and harassment continued throughout the year, as she continually called me racist and insinuated that my problem was with the maintenance man's character and skin tone rather than her lack of basic courtesy. The unprofessionalism does not stop with Miss Crawford, however. After a month-long battle of trying to get our security deposits back, (and many unreturned phone calls) the secretary informed me that the checks were sitting there, but they didn't have an address for us. We had called Elizabeth multiple times over the span of a month and were not given even the courtesy of a response. And the company, whose job it is to manage our rent and return our security deposits, found the whole process unnecessary and not worth their time. This whole experience has been unbelievably difficult and time-consuming. This company clearly doesn't understand the basic responsibilities that come with owning and renting a property and have no intention of improving. If planning on renting from Crawford Construction, prepare for time spent battling over basic rights such as privacy and respect.
