We have been here for 2 years, 4th and 5th grade. 4th grade was an up and down nightmare all year. His former teacher(now retired) proclaimed his class the worse shed ever had. 5th grade, teacher is new there this year, but is doing a good job. But we have had major issues with violent classmates, utterly vulgar adult themed name calling. When a substitute was leading the class my son and another child were stabbed with a pencil by a out of control student. The unprovoked attack was said to be the result of a back and forth between this child and the substitute teacher. The substitute failed to remove the child or contact the Achievement Team. Principal had no idea anything happened until an hour later at 3pm. But NO one called me to give me a heads up on anything. The day before in GYM my son heard this stabbing kid tell the Gym teacher he was going to "kill" my kid. The Gym teacher even warned my kid. WHY NOT CALL PARENTS??? or Achievement team. This could have ended worse, but it could have been prevented. SO sketchy on how to handle assaults and bullying. The school is ok, the bullying is limited to a very potent few.. IF your child goes here, you NEED to be proactive and seek information and communicate with your kid and the school. Because it seems all of this incident may have been swept right under the rug if my child hadn't filled me in. The way they handle things like this needs work. Parents NEED to know if a kid in class is randomly stabbing people in fits of rage. As far as academics, all testing, no learning just like the rest of this common core district. Real academics have to happen at home unless you want a mindless robot.

I went to Battle Creek elementary in 2012 for 1st grade and I stayed there until 5th grade. Some of the staff is nice and very helpful, Although they don't always know what's happening during some of difficult days. The achievement team isn't very helpful in most of the problems and bullying is a big issue in the school. Many of the student issues are known about but the never finish looking into it. As a former "turtle" I know a lot about the school and it's good just that it's not always the "best". You'll learn a lot and the specialist classes (science, PE and Music) are very fun and so are the regular classes (Home room).

I had joined the ECFE program here for my twin daughters. That's a great experience. My daughters enjoyed it a lot. It's really good program to start separation and preparing them for preschool and kindergarten. Teachers and staff were really helpful. I loved the parent and teacher class too, where everyone can discuss about and share their parenting experience. It was really fun.
