Hope Breakfast Bar - St. Paul

One of the BEST breakfast spots in St. Paul! You want a reservation if youre going on the weekend as they get busy. They have many GF and DF options! Their bacon tacos and Bloody Marys are amazing! Sadly, they have recently been rushing you out after around 50min and wont let you order additional food after your first order. They never did this in the past.

I got the Pina colada French toast which was filling and good, along with the loaded hash. My sister ordered the rice bowl with pho broth and spam; wasn't so good. It was more soup than anything and the broth was very bland. The matcha & Vietnamese coffees are not worth it. The atmosphere is very busy and slightly claustrophobic, but the fact that it was a firehouse and has memorabilia adds charm.

The food was okay but not awesome. I found it deceptive that they list a price on the menu, but then in teeny tiny small print there is notice of a 4% charge to pay their employees a living wage. I find that insulting and posturing. That is a cost of doing business and should be reflected in the pricing on the menu not hidden in the small print as the consumer is still paying for it. It would be nice if it were more transparent. I will probably not go back as I do not like being tricked into paying more like that. Either state the true price next to the item or make that print a little easier to see so we can calculate it before we order and know the true cost of the food, and get hit with a surprise when it comes time to pay.
