We had an issue with a promotional credit not being applied to our account. It took almost 2 weeks of back and forth to get them to straighten the error out, which was very frustrating. In the end, they issued the credit to our account. We've had two other accounts with them for many years and we were quite satisfied with them, so this recent issue's resolution hassle was unexpected. Aside from the issue we will continue with Morgan Stanley due to flexibility the accounts offer.

I have actually had really great luck with MSSB. During normal business hours, I always talk to a knowledgeable accountant, and my financial manager has had great advice on how to do the most for my money now and saving for retirement. He has always been willing to see me, or make an appointment if his days are full. Morgan Stanley is better suited towards larger investment amounts, which is why they charge seemingly large money management fees, I think around 5%, but their investors are really skilled at making money, and good about keeping me up to date with emails about their plans when stock markets are doing poorly. Plus, they have options for going paperless!

I suggest to avoid doing any business with Morgan Stanley Smith Barney. I had an account with them for years, including a Roth IRA that only had $400. They were charging me $75 a year to "manage" my account, even though my money just sat there and they didn't do anything. Finally, I decided to move my money to another brokerage company to avoid the $75 annual fees. Smith Barney charged me over $300 in cancellation fees! That's 75% of the total value of my Roth IRA!!! Stay away from Morgan Smith Barney and consider a different brokerage company that doesn't charge absurd amounts of fees.
