The school district and transportation will sweep stuff under the rug and then try to blame the kids and the parents

This review is for New Code Academy, kindergarten level specifically. We were thrilled to enroll after two years of home school due to promises of an innovate program that met the virtual age. Instead, there were huge problems with curriculum pacing and teaching pedagogy for early online learners. Social-emotional learning is an afterthought and content is delivered way too fast. Volume of work is privileged over quality of instruction. Mere minutes are taken to provide instruction or allow students to complete activities before everyone logs off for the remainder of the hour. They love to keep kindergarteners on screen all day and busy with worksheets, but spend very little time connecting with their students, providing opportunity for their students to connect with each other, and personally investing in the quality of the overall experience. Our daughter, who was already reading prior to kindergarten and who entered this program an eager learner, quickly became exhausted, moody, bored, and was highly discouraged because she couldn't perform to the teacher's standards, i.e. do things the way the teacher did. She dreaded attending class and we dreaded hearing everyone being told they were misbehaving or doing things wrong all the time when they were just good kids performing at a developmentally-appropriate level for a teacher that was largely disengaged from their experience all while trying to navigate complex media. We do not recommend this program. It crushed the spirit of a vibrant early learner and made us dread doing a job we originally loved.
