Very unique atmosphere. The walls are covered with various knick knacks, Americana and even some paddywhacks. Busy during peak breakfast time, but that's for a good reason.

Great diner. Excellent menu items. Coffee wasnt great and refills were slow. Would have given 5 stars if coffee quality was just a little better.

We are new to Minneapolis and wanted to check out Hot Plate as it is close to our new place. Just a simple breakfast date for this mom and her two kiddos. For starters, they were out of sticky buns on Monday morning which kinda stank as that is one of the main things we wanted to try, but ok, no problem we will choose something else. I ordered the poutine which was pretty tasty, my daughter ordered a traditional breakfast with eggs and sausage (very mid/nothing fancy), and my 10 year old son wanted a plain waffle, so that is what I ordered for him. About 20 minutes later after our food came I had to flag down our server to let them know this was not the correct waffle as it was the pumpkin waffle with nuts (which someone has an allergy to), and not a plain waffle. They proceeded to tell me that they dont offer plain waffles at Hot Plate, just the pumpkin one. Why wasnt this mentioned to me when I ordered a plain waffle for my 10 year old?! Not only did they not offer to replace it or comp it, it wasnt even what I ordered. Now my child has a waffle he cant eat, didnt want, and is hungry. I have never ever heard of a breakfast establishment that doesnt offer a plain waffle. Not even for a child. $55 for breakfast (before tip), no coffee, juices, or extras, just breakfast for an adult and two children (whom one didnt even get to eat his food because it contained nuts and wasnt what we ordered). Not to mention our sever didnt come back to refill our waters. Will never ever be back and sad I wasted my money here. Was hoping to find a nice spot to continue coming to close to home.
