        Ridiculously expensive and I could not understand my preparer. Never again.

        We met with Jacob C. yesterday and I walked away feeling robbed. We do not have particularly difficult taxes (1040 with no additional business, investment, retirement forms, etc.) and I've never gone to a tax preparer before now. They did not want to provide the cost when setting the appointment, which was not entirely unreasonable. As soon as we sat down, he let us know it's $430 to file. It wasn't until we got to my 1099 (schedule c) that he let us know the single form would be an additional $100. He knew nothing about tax law, nothing about the irs, and could not answer a single question outside of what was plugged into the h&r block software. We even had to help him troubleshoot an issue with the software. I thought we were paying for knowledge, advice, and experience as we went through the session. Kept waiting to get to the end for the professional part of the meeting and it never arrived. Again, he could not answer any questions I had regarded the tax process. I can't understand why anyone would pay $$$ for someone else to click the same buttons. Could have done the exact same thing at home for free on taxfreeusa (they've never let me down and I will go back to their service next year). The 4.9 reviews don't make sense to me.
